B.J Raji is showing up as a DE3. He has spent his career as a DT and NT.

Actually he played 3-4 end last year.

Pickett and Raji rotate at NT and DE. You're not losing that much by flip-flopping them.

So there is no way to sub in different linebackers for passing situations?

That's fine, and I prefer to use Raji as a DE. However, the link from Sandbox shows him as a NT. http://www.pro-football-reference.co...R/RajiBJ99.htm

What is the information source of record used to determine player position and production? If not pro-football-reference.com, I can save myself some time and grief by ignoring the player links and searching the same information that will be used in the sim.

Yeah, the links are good for showing roughly how much a guy played, but they're not the source we use for position designation. We purchase data on the number of snaps players played, and assign accordingly. Therefore, there's no link. From the owner's perspective, I guess you can consider it a fog of war.

Got it. The linked stats are not the stats for game purposes.

Yeah, we probably should document that. The links are just for convenience and really have no connection at all to the workings of the game.

Which then begs the question, how do we account for player degradation when entertaining trade possibilities?
When their real life stats aren't indicative of Sandbox performance due to past owner abuse, where will that info be?

rtmike 07-05-2013 08:07 AM

Or will there be a noticeable drop ala that Atlanta Falcon RB or LJ 4 instance?

Like a CARFAX for runningbacks.

That's a good question.

Part of the reason that we'll be freezing names in the long run is to make archive searches easier. We'll be developing a system of recording past years' stats, and you'll be able to look them up there. That's in the long term plan.

And thanks for the suggestions, everyone, on all your various topics. We'll take a serious look at them.

Along the same lines, what statistics are used to determine lineman performance? Is there some tracking of the number of times a DT required a doubleteam or YPC of RBs running behind Guards and Centers?

In short, yes. It's not just based on things like tackles made or pro bowl selections.
