Interesting factoid I hadn't considered:

Since the Martian Day is 24 hours, 40 minutes, 40 minutes longer than an Earth day, do the JPL scientists and engineers live their lives on Martian days to stay in sync?

[–]CuriosityMarsRover[S] 183 points 45 minutes ago
Yes. All of the operators (engineers, scientists, drivers, planners) live on Mars time, by shifting the schedule +40 minutes each day. This is order to maximize the efficiency of each sol. MB

What an incredibly boring mission to follow up this one with, compared to the one that would have explored Titan.

Of course they should have a budget that allows them to do both, and more.

Europa is perhaps the best chance at "divergent" life in the solar system.

There's a good chance Mars could have once given life to Earth or Earth to Mars but Europa is completely isolated.

Much of Jupiter is still just theory.

Most gas giants aren't this far out and most habitable planets aren't this far in.

Keep exploring. The big question is and will always be " why are we so special?"

Titan and Europa were mentioned earlier. Titan is like a premordial earth extremely volcanic and Europa (Scientists think) there's a liquid ocean underneath. Tidal gravity causing friction with Jupiter may give Europa enough warmth beyond the crust, even though it's so far from the sun for solar heat, to maybe have evolved life (at least as we know it).

Ganymede could be another option, molten core creating a magnetic field, 3/4 the size of mars and Galileo caught images of ice geysers shooting up and falling back as snow. Liquid water there too? Could be

The idea is that when an asteroid or something hits the planet, sometimes it hits hard enough to knock pieces of the planet out of the atmosphere. And those pieces have microbes and other micro-organisms that live in the little cracks and fissures, which can withstand the heat of the collision and the timeless vacuum of space. And then thousands if not millions of years later, those same rocks, now meteoroids themselves, land on another planet. And those little micro-organisms find themselves on a new planet in which the atmosphere doesn't kill them. Slowly over billions of years, the micro-organisms evolve into stuff.

They thought they found proof of something similar a while back in a martian meteorite. They thought it was a fossil of a martian micro-organism. But it turned out not to be. But the theory is actually sound.
