They have extra large screen, premium doublewide highback leather reclining seats, picture is in 4k, and Dolby's new Atmos surround setup- it handles up to 128 speakers placed all over the theatre to give a true surround sound field vs a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup. And, yes, this movie has been mixed specifically for Atmos, so it's not just upconverting based on the normal 8 tracks most films only have for a 7.1 presentation!!!

I'm almost as excited about where I'm seeing it as I am that I've been geeking to see this flick for well over a year!

You will enjoy the ping pong then.

I'll report back how worth it the 4k and Atmos is as KC (Barrywoods) is 1 of only about 7-8 locations (less than 30 theaters) in the US that has Atmos theaters as of yet.

They have had ATMOS for over a year down here. Honestly, I couldn't tell much difference. could have been the movie though.

No I know its been around but its just starting to get movies made to take use of it other than a couple Disney animated flicks, and TDoS.

I think I saw Disneys Oz movie and Pacific Rim in ATMOs. certainly loud and crisp. but if the movies were not mixed specifically to take advantage, then probably not much difference than a standard theater setup.

Fan-****ing-tastic. Probably will see it again, and I cant recall the last movie I saw twice in theaters.

unlurking 05-24-2014 08:09 AM

So any first hand reviews of 3D on this yet? Had to reschedule to tomorrow instead of today, and the theater is doing every other showing on the giant screen as non-3D. It's only a $1 difference so I don't care about price, but if the 3D is a distraction (normally doesn't bother me) I'd rather do a non-3D showing.

This shit was 10x better than I thought it would be. Action was great, acting was better, and there was a ton of comedy. Just a fun ass flick.

The time travel thing wasn't even corny, which is tough to do. But it spawned some questions for me.

I actually liked this better than Cap 2. Cap 2 was well-constructed but ultimately felt hollow. I think XMen had a little more dramatic meat on its bones, even if it was ultimately one big retcon.

Great movie!

As far as 3D goes, either this was better than the 3D in Godzilla (by a wide margin), or the UA IMAX 3D experience really sucks compared to the Regal RXP 3D.

Wallcrawler 05-25-2014 06:36 PM

Just saw this.

Spoiler!

JD10367 05-25-2014 06:36 PM

I thought this film was good if you're a fan and liked "First Class". But it was a bit talky and light on action, and wasted most of the actors as it was mostly Jackman, Lawrence, Fassbender, and the guy who played young Xavier. The 3D added nothing. I'm also not sure how old Xavier is here since last we saw in "Last Stand" Jean Gray blew him up and the at the end of "Wolverine" he was in the airport; did I miss an explanation somewhere?

JD10367 05-25-2014 06:39 PM

On the other hand, Jennifer Lawrence in a skintight blue bodysuit is worth the price of admission. I'd wreck that ass.

Someone didn't pay attention to the post credits scene of X-3.

RunKC 05-25-2014 06:48 PM

If it's mentioned forgive my ignorance. I'll look back in a bit

Edit: nvmd I just remembered. And it's going to be badass! Can't wait for this after watching the cartoon as a kid.

Wallcrawler 05-25-2014 06:54 PM

In X-3 Charles is giving a lecture on ethics as it pertains to mutant powers. He asks the students about where the line is drawn and what is deemed going too far.

He gives an example of a comatose man, who had been in a coma since birth with little to no brain activity whatsoever. His twin brother, was fine. This man was kept alive with machines for his entire life, and would it be ethical to use a power to transfer the mind of say a man with terminal cancer into the body of this man who had no brain activity.

Basically, the comatose man was Charles Xavier's twin brother. At the point that Jean desintigrated him, Charles projected his mind into the body of his twin brother, who would share the exact same genetic makeup as his body had, retaining the mutant X gene.

After the credits roll, a bearded Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart with an oxygen mask on) turns to Moira McTaggart and says Hello.

The only thing that is not explained is why Charles is once again wheelchair bound if he's transferred into his twin's body.

If his brother was comatose his whole life, no amount of physical therapy will help him walk again if he's never used his legs in his life. And I'm sure Charles is use to it by now anyway and won't waste his time trying.

Just watched this movie. IMO, best X-men movie I've seen. I thought that the first X-men go around wasn't that bad, but this current cycle is definitely a lot better. Favorite movie of the year so far, used to watch X-men on TV when I was a kid.

I think I'd actually enjoy some 1970's stories.

WhiteWhale 05-26-2014 09:22 AM

Three things.

1. This movie was fun and enjoyable.

2. This movie is a terrible adaption, which has been an issue with all X-films. It's too bad fans of the comics will never get a proper movie like fans of Spiderman, batman, superman, and even the Avengers have gotten,

3. Even after this film the continuity is a mess.

time travel and timelines are always a mess to deal with for films/TV

there wasn't as much cool tech stuff or tension without the future

You don't know what is going on without the past timeline

blending them together is disjointed and messy

Magneto does have some very impressive showings in the films, and I actually think the only reason he missed that one piece of shrapnel in DoFP is because it was that advanced polymer bullshit that the sentinels were made of.. In the comics, though, he's like a god. He can create force fields and even has low level telepathy.

I think, in the X Men cinematic universe so far, the most powerful in order:

Jean Grey as The Phoenix, Professor X, Sebastian Shaw, Quicksilver, then Magneto.

I really liked the Inferno crossover but doubt that'd ever see the big screen.

The Genosha story that ended up brother vs. brother wasn't bad.

And I honestly liked Havok much better with the X-Men than cyclops...
