That's not an accident.

the law doesn't technically allow for accidents. It specifies only the taking or killing as an absolute. She was reported because she had kept the feathers and someone ratted her out.

She got fined for intentionally keeping the feathers. Not for unintentionally killing it. They're not handing out fines just because of accidents.

Heh. My grandparents once had a duck crash through the windshield of their pickup that landed on the seat between them. They did make a meal out of it.

Do not recommend.

Once the meat is severely bruised like that it tastes like shit.

This happened before I was born. They were poor, and already out the price of a new windshield. At least they got a free meal out of it. Plus, grandma was an excellent cook.

I haven't had duck for a long time. IIRC I didn't care for it.

As I understood it, the American Bald Eagle WAS on the endangered list but at some point was just moved to Protected or whatever. In any case, we're seeing them around here the last couple of years. I mean, I had never seen one in my life until about 2 years ago. It's kinda breathtaking to be honest. I'm sure as they become more common, it'll be less impressive, but if I see one, I stop and watch.

My wife was watering the flowers by the side of the house, and heard the scraping of talons on the gutters above. She looked up and out of the corner of her eye saw this thing swooping above her head and then it took off down the street. It was a bald eagle, must have either been perched on the roof or was swooping down and hit the gutter. Freaky...

They are BIG for sure, as the OP pic illustrates.

So, what did they do with it? Like, carefully peel it off and stick it in a box for tagging and disposal?

Go to Alaska. Bald eagles are like wrens or crows.

I went to Dutch Harbor once and they were everywhere. They had a sign up that warned people to watch their heads lest they get taloned. It was a temporary sign, so maybe I was there in nesting season or something.

It's funny. Here in the Omaha area there are a few nests, one is about 2 miles south of my house, and that's where this one is probably from. People also talk of a nest in a recreational area nearby too. We're all pretty excited about them still.
