Yes, cheap fried burritos are yummy - even from a gas station. Add some cheap hot sauce to it and you get instant win.

Loose meat sandwiches are typically referred to as Maid-Rites in Iowa.

They are.
In the part of Iowa that I grew up in, they call them "Canteens".

SR if you're ever driving through Salina Kansas you have to sop at The Cozy Inn for some Cozy Burgers.

I don't personally mess with them, but if you ever have the misfortune of driving through Hammond, IN. Madvek's Doghouse has one.

just don't go inside, order at the walk up window and eat at the picnic table, lest you should smell like Cozy all day long. People can actually tell if you've eaten there if you step foot inside.

Cooking definitely evaporates a couple of volatile oils in onions and garlic. That same thing that brings tears to your eyes when you cut them up is what tears up sensitive stomachs. Not nearly as much of a problem with cooked, though.

Damn, you guys always make me hungry.

I assumed this was a IL/IA/NE regional thing, partially because people from NE love Runza, and the show Roseanne had the family open a loose meat sandwich shop in rural IL. Had no idea there were some in the KC area.
