Chiefs wont be paying a 3rd QB 5m a year no team is moving up to pick 1 for Geno.

You don't pay a backup QB $7 million.

You don't go after one so aggressively if you intend to draft a QB high.

You don't give a schmuck like Kevin Kolb $13 million until you're done exploring your trade options if you like the guy at the top of the draft.

The most QB poor team in the league - signing Kolb doesn't change that - just passed on Eugene Smith.

They're taking a QB, but not in round 1. They NEED those picks. Their team is average at best.
