To sell tickets. Its obviously not a situation worthy of an IC title match because Aldo has not been "inactive". Purists would argue that they should just sell it as a title eliminator match between the top 2 contenders, but the UFC wants a belt of some kind at the top of a PPV, so they are bending the standards for when an IC is appropriate.

I have no problem at all with Aldo automatically getting the belt after Conor is stripped because thats how it works when you have an interim champ, but turning immediately around and scheduling an interim championship bout weeks after the belt changes hands is just weird.

edit: just thought of this, the only thing that might justify this (it doesn't), is all his talk about how he's retired no matter what, he wants out of his contract, etc etc. Maybe the UFC thinks he'll change his mind if he has the belt, but just in case, this new IC will be the champ if Aldo wont fight.

It's the UFC's go to move when they're in a panic and need to try and sell a show that is going to bomb....

I'm not at all surprised by al's graphic. AKA has such a habit of getting people hurt before fights, something's gotta change there.

Digging into the data, Donald Cerrone had 33 fights from 2009-2016, zero injuries. (at least none that led him to pull out of a fight)

Ariel tweeted out that Conor got a boxing license in CA and is apparently applying in other states as well.....interesting.....

yep. His play here is to try to claim that the Ali Act doesn't let the UFC forbid him from boxing.

I'm not a lawyer, and I've seen lawyers argue both sides of this so I don't have a strong opinion on whether he's got a case or not.

If Conor actually prevailed and successfully got a judge to say he can box over the UFC's objections though, I can see the UFC going "ok fine, **** you then, go box". He's not a professional boxer, if he does poorly then in the end he hurts himself.

I'd assume any boxing promotion would jump all over him to get a ppv buy

Weekend Schedule

Friday

6pm - (Fightpass) - Titan FC 42

8pm - (Spike) - Bellator 166 According to the fight nerds on the internet, this is above average judging by Bellator standards. But, I won't be watching that shit because...

9pm - (Fightpass) - EBI 10 The Bantamweights. EBI is always cool.

Saturday

6pm - (Fightpass/7pm FS1) - TUF 24 Finale, could be one of Mighty Mouse's easiest fights in a while. The co-main is probably his next opponent after he sends Tim Elliott packing back to Titan FC.

8pm - (Spike) - Bellator 167 lol, why?

Sunday

Nothing but Football

He seriously thinks he's gonna fight mayweather for 100 million a piece. Seriously.
