Heads up! Golden Tiger 7.62 x 39 in stock. Get it now or it will be sold out in couple hours. They've limited it to 1 case per customer, otherwise I would've gotten a few cases.

There is still a lot of that ammo around here, but try finding .223 ammo for the AR. I was driving through a small town yesterday that has a walmart so I stopped in to check. They had 3 boxes left at $8.29 a box. I was all over that.

The only other stuff left in town is some Remington high speed crap at $37.00 a ****ing box. The sales guy behind the counter was saying "but it will move at 200 fps faster than your average round." For that price yeah, I don't think so. :spock:

I went to the range yesterday to shoot my new 9mm. I called in advance to see if they had lanes and ammo, and in the half hour it took me to get there they sold out of 9mm completely and had no idea when they were getting more in. We're still waiting on 9mm bullets to come in for our reloading, and since I don't feel like driving all over hell and creation looking for overpriced boxes of ammo, I guess I won't be shooting my M&P or XDm again until the bullets show up. At least they're on the way.

This is ridiculous.

I picked up some 9mm yesterday and they still had a lot of it left. I just stashed a few extra boxes in the event it dries up around here. 10mm on the other hand, yeah good luck.

I've seen some really good deals on "cheaper" guns the past week. Guys are panicking and dumping their little toys to buy big toys. Cheap pistols are flying around everywhere to fund bigger gun and ammo purchases.

Also... 2 ARs for $750 a pop...

Even with the wait, that's tempting. But in three months we should be set up for reloading the .223.

Finally got my XDm back from the gunsmith today. New Dawson front/rear sights, competition trigger and reliability package, throated mag well and ejection port.

Can't wait until I can actually make some friggin ammo so I can go shoot it. Still waiting on the bullets to show up - should be here late next week. We've got the reloading equipment all set up and have all the rest of the components.

How much powder do you have?

I don't think we have any rifle powder yet (it was only last night that I learned there was a difference - I thought powder was powder). IIRC we have about 8 pounds of pistol powder. Which, apparently, is plenty. :D

8 pounds will go a long way in 9mm, around 11k rounds.

Powder is hard to come by. We received 16 pounds of Hodgedon and Benchmark about 3 weeks ago, but getting any more is going to take some patience.

Don't ask about primers. We have 5k of large and 4k of small left, but can't find any to buy. We are used to being stock up, so this is getting interesting.

My 2K 155 grain Sierra Match Palmas shipped 2 days ago from Midsouth, but they still don't have 69 grain Nosler Custom Comps yet. (Damnit).

Good luck finding anything. Just like with AR lowers and bolts, reloading has some shortages.

notorious 02-10-2013 10:36 AM

Oh, Walmart just put a 1 box max purchase on all ammo.

I usually pick up a box of 9mm every time I am there, but the last 2 trips they were sold out.

When it comes to pistol ammo, we're set. Got a shit ton of powder, primers and brass, just waiting on the bullets to arrive (ordered and schedule to ship in about a week).

We don't have anything in the .223 department, though, outside of some brass. Can't even find dies right now.

I have some .223 ammo, but I wouldn't fire off a round of it right now unless my life depended on it.

Be very very careful with pistol powders, you dnt toss a double load. It takes very lil powder for 9mm around 5 grains for HP-38 with 115 gr bullet.

A wise oldman told me/Have the same respect for that press as you would a loaded gun.

Word

I had a friend that would reload all the time in high school. (Thank God it was only shotgun shells) We would be out bird hunting and half the guys shells wouldn't go BOOM. He had a bunch that would go pop and a wad would drop out of the end of the barrel. Ooops, forgot the powder in another one. LMAO One day the guy had his 870 blow up on him, split the barrel. The guy was bummed I wouldn't use his reloads...Yeah.

It's been a very good "panic" season.
Got some new toys to play with.
Approximate net totals (minus some random spending that wasn't gun related, shipping, etc):

Marlin model 60 .22lr semi-auto
Mossberg 702 .22lr semi-auto
S&W SD9VE 9mm
Advantage Arms Glock 17 .22lr conversion

$1450 cash
10 1oz silver coins
5oz silver bar
A couple hundred rounds of Hornady ammo in various calibers (.308/9mm/5.56/.40).
1k worth of match .22lr ammo (fed HV match)
3k worth of plinking .22lr ammo (various bulk packs)
1 boat payment (=$440)

http://s1034.photobucket.com/albums/...30209-2019.jpg

Still have to replace 30-40 mags, an AK, and some fed bulk 5.56 ammo. So hopefully this panic period ends soon.

Well, had I known when I dropped $550 on one that I'd need to spend another $400 to truly make it awesome, I might have gone with something else. There were reasons I took it to the gunsmith beyond just getting it tricked out - primarily, on my model (XDm 9mm 3.8" barrel) the sights were off, which is apparently a common problem. It consistently shot high. Also, it takes a 19 round mag, which makes for an extra-long grip. This would make it a very poor choice for a conceal carry gun, and is the main reason I bought a new pistol for that purpose. There is also a small, cheaply-made pin in the slide that had cracked and eventually would have completely broken and caused the weapon to fail. The gunsmith saw it when he fully disassembled it and replaced it with a much higher quality pin. But I would not have known to look for it, nor did it appear broken. I don't know if this is a common problem or not, but it pissed me off.

That said, it never failed to fire, and even though the sights were off, it shot consistently. It is a blast to shoot, and if you've never fired a gun with a competition trigger, you won't be aware of trigger lag.

So I would recommend it, but I would recommend that you go with a different model - either go big (5.25" barrel, which comes with better sights), or the compact model which has a smaller grip for CC (but will accommodate extended mags if you wish to use them).

This is the model I have:

This is the larger one with the 5.25" barrel:

I have one of those, too. Great gun, but definitely not compact. I really like my new Smith and Wesson M&P 9c compact, vastly prefer it to the Glock 26 subcompact, which just has far too small a grip, IMO.

I don't know if you could go wrong with a Glock 19, though. Small enough to be concealable, but not too small.

Frazod 02-10-2013 02:53 PM

I wish running down to Bilings was an option for me, but it isn't. :D

Because I know I'll be sitting on thousands of rounds in a couple of weeks, I haven't really bothered canvassing the area looking for 9mm ammo. However, every online shop I've checked is out and not taking orders, and if a large, previously well-stocked shooting range runs dry and says they don't know when they'll get more, it's gotta be a problem.

Oh I have no doubt. I wonder if there will be a point when shotgun shells will start running low. My guess would be if everything else runs dry, people will start loading up on that. :hmmm:

I don't know - I don't own any shotguns.

I guess one good thing is that it should be a lot easier to go shoot at the local range when nobody else has ammo. Assuming the local range can stay in business.

Southeast, plenty of fish round these parts. I try to eliminate them all each year, but they just keep coming back. It was a bad year for halibut, plenty of fish but they were all small. Only got 1 over 20#s this year.

Yeah that's what I hear. When I go after halibut, I base out of Homer.

Interesting status report from Valley Guns in West Virginia

Status of gun industry

Attention F.B. fans: to follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: We traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, here's what we were told.

Smith & Wesson: is running at Full capacity making 3000+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.

RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1.
Remington-Maxed out!

Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.

LWRC: Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL: is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted...

Related commentary from Bob Owens:

They didn't know when they'd be getting anything back in stock, from magazines to rifles to pistols. Manufacturers were running full-bore, but couldn't come close to keeping up with market demand. It wasn't just the AR-15s, the AK-pattern rifles, the M1As, and the FALs that were sold out. It really hit me when I realized that the World War-era M1 Garands, M1 carbines, and Enfield 303s were gone, along with every last shell. Ubiquitous Mosin-Nagants-of which every gun store always seems to have 10-20-were gone. So was their ammo. Only a dust free space marked their passing. I've never seen anything like it.

Time for some new companies to take a piece of the market. I have pondered purchasing a machine to make lowers and get a firearm manufacturing license.

I talked to a guy that sells lowers at $250 a pop, makes 30 a day, with a small amount of aluminum. :hmmm:

Frazod 02-11-2013 09:08 PM

I'm kind of wishing I'd picked up some sort of pistol ammo shooting carbine now, like the Kel Tec Sub 2000 or Beretta CX4 Storm. You won't find either of them now unless you go to some pound-me-in-the-ass auction. I'm sure as **** not paying $1500 for one of them.

I found a Kel TEc Sub 2k on midwestguntrader for $700.

I received 45 pounds of .308 bullets today.

This ammo shortage is a bitch! Time to get into melting my own lead for pistols.

Yeah, DHS is ordering ammo in the 10's of millions, AR's by the 1,000's while the government wants to prevent you from doing just that.

It's ok though, they'll take care of you

Remember, when they buy them, they're "personal defense weapons."

When we buy them, they're "assault rifles." LMAO

They're trying to get away from the "assault" label and mvoe to "military style"...kinda like how Global Warming went to "Climate Change"

I have never purchased loaded rounds on the net. Do they charge a hazard fee?

CrazyPhuD 02-11-2013 09:54 PM

The dead are rising and we have no ammo!!! Nooooooo.....it's a conspiracy I tell you....a conspiracy!

Bwana 02-11-2013 09:54 PM

This is a good place to hunt for ammo deals FWIW.

http://www.gun-deals.com/ammo.php

You have to keep checking back though, it's a real hit and miss.

I try and buy from www.palmettostatearmory.com check the site a few times a day, looking for deals. They don't overprice their ammo, shipping is cheapest ($11 for 500 rnds).

If it isn't on the front page, they are out of stock.

They are out of everything.

I heard they are a good company, though.
