I finally went and did the CC Class this past weekend before it's even more of a pain in the ass. Took my son and daughter* as well.

Makes me smile. America just became a lil more safer IMO
I did mine last Saturday.

Great Guns in Liberty has 5.56/.223 rounds which I know are hard to come by right now. Unfortunately, 500 rounds is $400

CDNN sports has a lot of mags in stock, you have to call though. No real PMAGS though.

That sounds like a good idea, actually. I'm sure it will become more of a pain to get a CC license after all this is said and done.

Holy ****....I pickd up 2 Cammenga 30's from Cabelas yesterday at $30 apeice. Only ordered 2 so I could check them out. Today they are not even listed on their site so I am happy I at least ordered 2

The logic as explained to me is that the curved nature of 30+ round magazines sometimes causes the bullets to catch because of the "bullet tilt" and most mags ( including tapco mags) outside of PMAGs are more prone to this. I'm guessing this is why you see a lot of other brands tout that they have magpul followers in an effort to prevent this. I've never experienced this but just passing on what I was told.

This is why 20 "Thermelts" :) are generally good magazines. They are straight feed.

Several years ago in a gun topic when I mentioned that I hunt deer with my SKS some know nothing piped off, "What are you trying to do, blow the deer up?" and he actually thought that was a salient point.

It’s for everything that my .22 won’t handle.

Ok, I thought I was being cute but that’s just stupid.
This is my brush rifle. I’m not dragging my -06 through the briars, locust, hedge rows and barbed wire so when I go hunting for anything coyote size and up this is what I take and it’s a plain Jane for a reason.
I’ve had a folding stock on it that got wobbly which made for inconsistent accuracy so I switched it out for this Draganov style stock and love it. The collapsible stocks out now look to be better quality than the folding stocks that used to be on the market but I’m happy enough I’m not switching now.
I have 30 round detachable magazines for it but those things don’t work worth a damn. I’m actually faster reloading with the stripper clips it was built to use and I got real tired of dragging it through the brush and having that long mag grab every branch that went by.
The high scope mount is cast into the receiver cover so I can still use the iron sites. Even with the scope turned down to 3X when drawing down on a deer at <50 yards if you can even get the scope on target all you’ll see is fur so the iron sites are actually very handy.
The scope isn’t great, its an NC Star Mil Dot 3-9X 42mm which is good enough for me to put 10 rounds into a pattern the size of a 1lb coffee can lid at 200 yards and if I put a longer scope on it with better optics I’d also have to put a shell deflector on it since SKS’s are notorious for dinging scope tubes with ejected shell casings.
So it’s not fancy but its reliable and I’m deadly with it.

Yeah, its idiotic on several levels. One of the things I'm hearing that enrages me the most is, "we're not going to ban your hunting rifles", or, "you don't need more than ten bullets to kill a deer." The last time I looked, the 2nd amendment isn't about hunting.

Exactly and that is what infuriates me the most is when people imply hunting has something to do with the right bear arms.

yogos are only up $20, so if you want a cheap sks before the butt-holes politicians change some laws have at her. Think you have to use certain type of ammo with these and don't think you will be hitting 500 yards consistently either.

Cheese and crackers, $400? I got mine pre-Clinton ban for $60 still packed in the cosmoline. Wish I’d have bought 20.
500 yards is stretching it for an SKS. I can cut paper out there but the round is losing so much velocity at that point I wouldn’t trust it to knock game of any size down.

that's a good deal. I just bought some .223 brass cartridges for $15 a box of 20. I went ahead a got another 30 round magazine for $15.00 too.

Munson 02-02-2013 05:30 PM

I've decided that 2013 will be the "Year of the AK" for me. I originally planned on getting an AR-15 and a pistol before getting anything else. But I'll wait until later to get those.

I ordered some AK-47 and AK-74 mags to start with. I probably paid a little too much, but I'd rather have some mags in my possession, just in case the politicians end up banning hi-cap mags.

Next up is a few of 1,080-round spam cans of 5.45 x 39. I missed out on a deal for $170 per can.

I didn't write anything down. I was paying attention to the SKS's and the lowest price one was 600.

But yeah. They were high. Dude I was sittin next to was recording all the prices and he said most of the ones I hadn't done any research on were 300 above retail for the most part. I didn't stay too long.

If you don't get any bites here, hang it on Craigslist. I have had the same thing happen with Ebay. I listed some brass at one point and they pulled it, claiming it was live ammo. They did that with three pictures of the brass in the listing. :spock:

I expected as much.

Emotion runs high at an auction, but 600 for an SKS is down right idiotic.

I go to a few farm auctions and business auctions and most used tools will sale for near their new price.

It wasn't just one SKS, it was like 8 of them.

And sometimes, there are some deals to be had at some auctions, it's hit or miss on the farms stuff. But these were pretty absurd.

The thing that surprised me was the stuff that is going to be subject to the bans or restrictions weren't all that much higher than the standard stuff. I thought there would be a pretty good premium for the stuff that could be exposed to the bans. But all of it was high.

I buy a lot of mine for investment. I was watching some of these go for $100 a pop two weeks ago. Wait it out until the next scare and cash in. It beats the hell out of the ROI on stocks. I made a killing on some AR's and AK's two weeks ago.

I was just getting ready to post that it's out there, but they are damn proud of it. I was able to snag up a bunch of ammo right when this last scare started. (For all my weapons) Still waiting it out for .223 to go down, but I have 1400 rounds for that now.

As of last week, the local Cabela's still had a bunch of 9mm. The 10mm for my Glock is what's hard to run down at a reasonable cost. I caught a sale last summer and bought 800 rounds, so I'm good there.

I have yet to find one thing that Cheaper than Dirt has a good deal on.

I have never bought anything from them, and never will.

Yeah, that must be some expensive goddamn dirt they're talking about.

I've bought a couple of things from them over the years, but now I basically view them with the same contempt as the overpriced local gun store I won't ever do business with again.

They only have them for 9mm. :shake: If they had them in 10mm, I think would have to invest.

I'm thinking about buying a 10mm glock but am curious on the ammo situation, can you update me on this?

You can still get the high end ammo, but the plinker stuff has dried up for now.
