Why did Dee Ford cross the scrimmage line?

To kill Peyton Manning.

Yeah, but can Sutton do it? I'd rather have Ford out there in that Joker role as a pass rusher and have Berry in coverage. Sure Berry is a nice blitzing safety but we need him providing coverage far more than we need him trying to sack the QB. That's why we brought in the extra pass rusher in the 1st round.

I don't have a problem with Berry blitzing. If we were talking about designed blitzes, yes. But the reason Berry blitzes is to keep QBs on their toes. The QB has no idea what Berry is going to do until after the ball is snapped.

Attaochu is a better pass rusher.

He's certainly a better all around linebacker.

That was a helluva pick for your guys.

All good in theory, but who is going to make up for Berry in coverage if he's our best safety in coverage?

Dee's a good investment and will instantly become a part of a fearsome rotation. He's obviously a CYA pick for Tamba. It's a shame for the Chiefs that it had to be done that high and you couldn't move down some spots and get an extra 3rd or 4th.

Because Dee Ford is standing behind it.

He's a better all-around player but he doesn't have Ford's first step.

Attaochu benefitted a lot from being by far the best player on his defense and playing in the ACC...

If I'm Seattle, I'm running the ball right at Ford.

Why not. They often run right at Hali too. It's one of the knocks on the 3-4.

Inside the Falcons' pursuit of Dee Ford
(highlight)
Quote:

Now came the next piece of drama in the Atlanta draft room. New assistant GM Scott Pioli was a voice of calm in the room; he’d been urging Dimitroff to not be too eager to move back into the first round. Atlanta sat at 37, and wanted a pass-rusher—either a defensive end or an outside linebacker. The Falcons really wanted Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier, who went to Pittsburgh at number 15. That was too high for Atlanta. Then the object of their affection was defensive end Dee Ford, and he would have cost a third-round pick for Atlanta to move into the mid-20s. But Kansas City grabbed Ford at 23, and there went the two rushers Dimitroff liked. Instead of overpaying for a player he didn’t love, Dimitroff sat and took high-risk/big-reward defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman of Minnesota.

Pioli wanted Dee Ford? I might have to restrain my enthusiasm about the pick.
