Jonathan Kent died imo, didn't feel as much emotion for Clark through most of the movie

This movie wasn't about Lois and Clark's relationship. It was about Lois and Clark meeting. That's all. Lois found him. They talked. They kissed once right after the world almost ended.

The relationship is for the next movie.

Same is true for the collateral damage and "betraying the character of Superman". People are acting like Superman was supposed to be the character we recognize from 80 years of history as soon as he puts his costume on. He's not. He's a guy who's been hiding who and what he is for literally his entire life until he's dragged out in front of the world. He's just learning about Krypton and Jor-El. He's never been (I assume) in a fight with anyone ever in his life, much less someone with the same power he has. He's barely learned he can fly. He's not really Superman yet. He's just starting to learn what he can do. And I imagine he's just starting to learn the consequences of what he can do. There's no magic crystals to teach him everything there is to know. He doesn't disappear for 10 years and come back. He's just getting started.

And it's actually potentially a good setup for the 2nd film. The consequences of all that destruction. Maybe that's where Lex Luther comes in. Maybe that's where Bruce Wayne comes in. Maybe it ties in some other way.

The reason it was emotinally engaging to me was that both both of his fathers were protecting him the best way that Jor-El/Jonathon believed they could. In other words a parents love has no bounds

You knew this guy was just looking to diss the film when he threw out the tornado scene as insensitive. Really? He would've been better off saving his time and saying he just didn't like this film and that's that. Not putting out 1000 words full of arguments with holes in them, but then he wouldn't have an article. I get people saying it was too dark or not liking the product placement... but most of these nitpicky problems are similar to the stupid arguments last summer about how we don't know if Bruce Wayne could escape the Batwing before the bomb goes off. Do we really need to see Clark Kent's job interview process to make this a legitimate film? Really?

The first half was great and towards the end after he killed zod. You know he didn't want to do that. I think my only complaint was i wanted more of the origin on earth.

Another theme that was touched on by most of the main characters was sacrifice for the greater good even Zod's view though distorted had that in mind

I loved the whole concept of the identity. Who am I? What am I? How am I supposed to act? I loved the flashbacks to Smallville, esp. with Pa Kent.

Near the end, the shot of young Clark with the cape posing in front of the dog ... my God, I'm choking up again. And Clark putting on the glasses, wow.

The movie really moved me.
