I ran out of projects & got board. So I started looking around & decided this Mosin Nagant needs a scope. So this is my fist prototype of 2. This mount is high enough to still use the irons sights, the next one wont allow the irons ,but the cheek weld will be way better

The scrap metal

milled a nice flat plain for the mount, now taping the receiver

still scratching my head at this point, but we are getting somewhere

enough scratching the head, lets just move on & get this done

I think I will re tap & move that 10/22 scope mount back another inch, I dnt like how the scope adjustment knob is right up against the scope ring.

This might be the first time I've ever seen someone bolt a piece of angle iron to the side of a gun in order to mount a scope on it.

Scoping a Mosin Nagant, their really isn't any other way. pistol scopes & what people now call scout rifles aint for me. & an original PU mount is 2 ta 3 times what the rifle is worth, & then you still need to buy either the cheap Chinese knock off or lay out big bucks for a real PU Russian scope.
I know it's crude & ugly, but so are 91/30s.

I Google imaged them after seeing your creation. All but one or two looked pretty damn ugly and some of them looked like they were priced by the ounce of ugly they had in them.

Does your bolt clear the angle iron

No. I still have a bent bolt handle to make or buy. I got this idea off a Youtube vid for the record

It's looking good..did your screws come through..will that effect the bolt while feeding or am I seeing something else in the pictures

LiveSteam 06-01-2014 12:11 AM

I drilled all the way through. After I clean it up with a Dremell It shouldn't effect the cycling.
Next time I will move that angle iron back another inch though. Should have scratched my head a lil longer there

Perineum Ripper 06-01-2014 09:09 AM

It looks good so far..moving it back would of helped but trial and error is the best way to learn..very cool that you are doing it yourself

Well I'm thinking about getting a new concealed carry pistol. I have a XDm compact 45, and while it'll be great for when I can have layers on it's a little bulky for summer carry. I'm thinking about selling my Ruger p89 and getting a XDs 45 or a Shield 9mm. I might head to the range this week and try out a few more of the concealed carry guns on the market.

This will likely be my next aquisition.

Amazing deal:

Redfield Revenge 6-18x $199

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/836...ProductFinding

At $280 this scope has no equal IMO. It beats my Nikon Monarch in clarity, and it's repeatable to perfection. I have one of these on my 1000 yard balloon buster.

At $199 it's unbelievable.

I didn't shoot it a whole lot because I spent most of my time with the 9mm Hi Power. But I've got 500 rounds of .40 on the way, and will spend more time shooting it the next time around.

Yah, it's definitely a snappy pistol, it almost feels like a 45 IMHO...

so with the new law in KS taking effect on 7/1, is conceled carry also allowed now? Or simply open carry?

House Bill 2578 doesn't effect conceal carry. You can conceal carry in Kansas since 2006. What the bill does is eliminate the hodgepodge patchwork of local laws for transporting firearms. The NRA-ILA link below explains it better than I can. Basically in a nutshell, concerning the carry laws, it strips local municipalities from making firearm restrictions and gives that power to the state level only. Both conceal and open carry are legal in Kansas.

Had another impulse buy today. :doh!:

Went into a funstore to check on 22LR... ofcourse they are all out. See a assload of 17HMR on the shelve and ask if they had any rifles for 17HMR...

Looked at a Savage and a pretty decent Marlin before I saw the Ruger.

Really was impressed with the fit and finish of the Ruger 17 HMR so I went for it.
