Ive had people who wouldn't have a scooby doo about NFL text me about this signing, the reach is massive on this side of the Atlantic.

Would be a cool story

He was timed running 24mph last year in a game. Hill's fastest last year was 22mph.

Chieftain 03-30-2024 08:40 AM

Anthony Schwartz who was drafted by the poo stains was also fast, very fast. Veach and Andy must see more to this kid's game to make such a move.

Even without pad , that I think would be faster than any soccer play speed recorded this year .

Of course he is going to be naive in learning the playcalls and running crisp routes but Andy Reid is smart enough to know that you don’t bring someone in because they can do things you don’t normally see and then try to force them to conform to all the norms of a player in their position. Trying to do that would be like acknowledging that Mahomes is the all time greatest scramble drill improviser in the game yet deciding that because Quarterbacks are traditionally pocket passers you are going to chain him to the pocket.

If he bulks up, he's going to get slower, not faster.

And 4.4 isn't slow. More than fast enough to play in the NFL.

He's another athletic guy. Andy really likes athletes, almost more than he likes football players, or so it seems at times.

how fast does he run in pads while running a route?

Red Dawg 03-30-2024 12:37 PM

He doesn't take up a roster spot and no cap space. Why not have a fun story. Probably camp fodder but who cares.

I'm not so sure he really needs to bulk up any.

Yep. I hope he does some cool stuff for us. Just not expecting a whole lot of snaps for him outside of STs in year 1.

I don't think he does either. He's already 200 lbs., right? He looks buff enough to me anyway.

My only point being, this isnt the first time a rugby to football conversion has been attempted. I live here in NorCal and remember the hype.

Just saying every year there are hundreds of phenomenal athletes in the US that have played football their entire lives and cant transition to the NFL. Its a long shot for a guy who has never played to have success here.

Having said that, with the new KO rules might enter new strategies and Andy is second to none in placing people in places to have success so Im not counting anybody out lol.

RunKC 03-30-2024 12:57 PM

They’re treating this guy like he’s a first rd pick. He’s probably makes the roster but won’t play much aside from ST’s

I've literally mentioned Jordan Mailata twice in this thread already.

I just think that as the NFL gains more international attention, it’s only a matter of time that more players start taking an interest in the game at a young age and we’ll start seeing a small trickle of guys making NFL rosters.

"shittier"? I don't know. Maybe. I guess we'll see sooner or later. But as someone already said, every year there are dozens of guys drafted because they're fast, and those guys usually played football in HS and college, and most of them can't play at the NFL level, so I'm not exactly holding my breath with this guy.

Buehler445 03-30-2024 07:40 PM

Yep. I'm going to go full on homer douche on this one.

Give him the Skyy Moore stupid easy-open schemed wide the **** open looks and let him go.

I'm not sure how I feel about him at RB. He's going to have to learn pass pro, which might be a steep hill for him. But give him cleared out lanes or comebacks and let's go.

Skyy got a totally insane amount of easy looks. And it turns out he's straight trash let's give an athlete those looks.

Christian Wade gave it a go with the Bills a few years ago, he was 27 years old, has a faster recorded time than Rees-Zammit, but couldn’t make it in the NFL. He said it was so much harder than he thought, everyone is competing for a job and most of the guys have been playing since they were 5 years old. He thinks Rees-Zammit has a better chance than him since he is only 23. He did look good on this play though:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Former rugby 🏉 player turned Running Back Christian Wade takes his first carry in the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NFL?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NFL</a> to the house! 65 yard TD carry with some very impressive breakaway speed.<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NFL100?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NFL100</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Bills</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/HubU?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#HubU</a> 🏈 <a href="https://t.co/cqAzrGBCsB">pic.twitter.com/cqAzrGBCsB</a></p>&mdash; Universal Sports Hub (@SportsHubU) <a href="https://twitter.com/SportsHubU/status/1159884889488891904?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 9, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Tbh Wade had much better lateral speed than Zammit, albeit maybe a little less long speed. Despite the age he always struck me as a better athletic profile. But yeah maybe the age difference gives Zammit a shot.

Good listen. He confirms his goal and primary focus is to be the kick returner based on the new rules, and then as he ramps and learns the playbook, he’ll be in the backfield and slot, and whatever other creative ways they can find him the ball.

Also cool listening to the rugby guys geeking out about Mahomes and Kelce, and hearing him talk about how it was a no-brainer to pick the Chiefs despite several other teams being interested. He visited with Cleveland, NYJ, and Denver before us, and had other teams lined up after but cancelled them.

He also said he was pissed at his 4.4 forty time on the Scout day, because he had been running it in the 4.2’s and 3’s. Unreal.
