I still remember the original ep 7 faux script leaks where Luke was in hiding in part because he felt he was too powerful, like ridiculously strong.

There are rumors that he's been consulting with Yoda over the years, who will likely make an appearance. I think that it's more likely than not that Luke is the most powerful Jedi, ever.

My thoughts exactly, though...

I'm thinking they have probably moved away from the "unstable" Luke aspect that we were teased with during Epi 7 spoliers.

Rumor: Recorded Audio for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Frank Oz Has

by: Jay Carlson – Editor-in-chief

Typically, I don’t run Star Wars information that I haven’t vetted through two sources, but since there have been rumbles elsewhere about this already and it’s not spoilery I thought I’d share a potentially cool piece of info that was floated my way recently. A source tells me that Frank Oz has been in to record new audio as Yoda for Rian Johnson’s currently in production Star Wars: Episode VIII in England. The source also says that (to their knowledge) Oz is there only to lend his voice and is not on hand for anything visual.

Anything could change, though. I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to see Yoda in the flesh again, (Preferably via an OZ operated puppet). It seems this might not be completely out of the question as our friend shared a rumor that there were “Ahch-To recreations made to accommodate a puppet,” last month when they also reported that they had heard that Oz was headed to the Episode VIII set.

This wouldn’t be Oz’s first brush with the Sequel Trilogy. You might recall that Anthony Breznican at Entertainment Weekly reported that Oz was called in for voice work along with Ewan McGregor, by J.J. Abrams for The Force Awakens for Rey’s force vision. While McGregor’s audio was ultimately used in the final cut, Oz’s new Yoda vocals were not. Instead, Abrams opted to use vintage Yoda audio from his previous work in the Star Wars universe. The resulting scene was one of the most talked about moments of The Force Awakens thanks to its cryptic mashup of familiar visuals from the Original Trilogy as well as cryptic looks at what’s happened in the years (presumably) since Return of the Jedi. Most impressive to the scene was a repurposed bit of vintage Alec Guinness dialogue allowing his presence to be felt sixteen years after his death.

I’m told that a Yoda puppet had even been built for The Force Awakens in the event that they opted to use him onscreen and that special care had gone into making sure he looked right, just as they had done with Chewbacca and Admiral Ackbar. It’s not clear if this Yoda had actually gone in front of cameras or if he’d just been constructed in the event that they decided to use him.

I’d prefer to see Yoda pop his crazy green head up in the next installment, but I’d be pleased just hearing Frank Oz’s Yoda giving Luke or Rey words of wisdom from the ether in Episode VIII.

So I watched VII again this weekend. I liked it still. Total and complete ripoff of IV, but I still enjoyed.

We had a conversation a while back about the First Order and how they came to be in possession of Starkiller Base. I had thrown out the idea that Palpatine had a research base out beyond the Outer Rim with who knows what floating around out there, and the fledgling First Order had found and raided it. Well, during his speech before they fired the weapon and destroyed most of the system, General Hux specifically said "...this base YOU Have built...", pretty much squashing my theory.

So we are to believe that in thirty years Starkiller Base was constructed and operated. I have a problem with that, especially considering it was roughly ten times the size of the Death Star. I don't know why it bugs me, but it does. Pretty small on the list of things that should have bugged me from that film, but I just can't get around that one little detail. Am I just being over critical, or is there a reason this is bugging me (like possibly some connection to VIII and IX?)?

(And I didn't want to bump the VII thread, so I just threw this in here)

They've purposefully left a lot unanswered. The Bloodline book fleshes a few things out but doesn't give away any major secrets.

In any event, the new good guys have a classic SW vibe to them but the First Order just seems disjointed to me. IMO, it's going to take a LOT of Luke Skywalker to really get this thing moving.

Also, Starkiller was built on an actual planet. It wasn't a stand alone space station so after it was designed, I doubt it took more than a few years to complete.

Alright, this rumor has been out there for a couple of weeks now and is gaining traction everywhere. Even though this is the Spoiler Thread, if true, this is REALLY a massive spoiler. It also ties back to the latest series of books and Luke Skywalker, in which Rian Johnson contributed to the story line.

I'm REALLY not liking that. At all.

At this point, I'd rather have the "Rey is the granddaughter of Palpatine"-theory.

It sounds like fan fiction to me but apparently the person that leaked has been reliable in the past.

Knowing that Luke sought out the first Jedi Temple makes this spoiler more plausible but personally, it's not important for me to know the origins of The Force. That was the cool thing about the OT was that we were led to believe that anyone could become a Jedi.

It also reminds me of the Clone Wars episode that featured The Father, The Sister and The Brother, which makes it even more odd.

Also, too much of this "Chosen One" nonsense makes it feel like The Matrix, which is unnecessary and unwanted, IMO.

What makes most sense to me is that she's a Kenobi. Otherwise, why did she hear Obi Wan's voice in the ForceBack? Ewan and Alec Guiness?

I would prefer the Kenobi angle, and it would make some sense if Obi Wan abandoned the celibacy-thing while on Tatooine.

Red Brooklyn 06-19-2016 03:15 PM

My own personal preference based on rumors I've seen (I didn't read Dane's Spoiler above):

1. Her parents are people we haven't met yet; are not recurring characters in the SW universe so far.

2. She's a Kenobi

3. She's the Emperor's granddaughter

4. She's a Skywalker

5. She's Anakin reincarnated (fart noise)

6. She's a Han & Leia's kid.

That's the most likely path, though it would be cool if Kenobi had some action with another force-sensitive in his post-Jedi wanderings.

Bowser 06-19-2016 05:47 PM

We need those Kenobi stand alone movies. I think the reveal would be better there than in VIII, if that theory is true.

Would explain why she's seemingly stronger with the Force than Kylo - she's the daughter of a powerful Jedi Master where he is the son of a Force sensitive woman who never trained as a Jedi or tried to hone her skills.

Yes. That single movie or series with Ewan would be the best part of this whole affair.

I haven't had any time to post any new rumors but the juiciest I've read lately is that Shmi and Qui-Gon had an affair in many drafts of TPM, according to artist Ian McCaig.

He intimates that she's a Skywalker and a descendent of Qui-Gon, which would be beyond cool, IMO.

There isn't one LucasFilm employee that wouldn't tell you it wasn't his baby.

The inclusion of Saw was a big **** You to Disney.

There will be more of that...

Yeah, saying "**** you" repeatedly to the new ownership should absolutely facilitate a quality end-product.

But hey, throw in "Clone 656" if it tickles your balls. Lucas can't write worth a **** or develop a character anymore; I'm glad he's out.

"Hey, I had a great idea in 1973! Other people took it and made it even better( Kirsh, Kasdan ), then I wrote a back story that sucked more shit than a dairy farm sump-pump while "directing" my new adventure from a ****ing La-Z-Boy behind two monitors in the most sterile environments ever created by man while simultaneously being told how "great" my shitty product was by an army of sycophants and quite possibly, very possibly, the most single annoying and useless goddamned "producer" to ever crawl out of a Hollywood whore house but please, everyone; CONTINUE TO KISS MY ASS"!

"Hey, did ya' see my stellar work with Steven on "Indiana Jones and the Can Someone Get George Another Coffee and Donut While We're Trying To Make An Actual ****ing Film Here"?

"I sill got it, babee"!
