It is pretty amazing, so you can't complain about seeing that kind of dominance. In another way though, I almost wish he wasn't doing so well. If he was back closer to the pack at -8 or -9, it would be setting up an insane weekend with a ton of huge names in play. You'd have Phil, Tiger, Rory, Els, Sergio, Scott, Day, Rose, Dustin Johnson, Cabrera, Oosthuizan, Schwartzel and even Mark O'Meara all chasing the young gun. A ton of major champions and guys who are regularly in contention.

It would've been one of the most amazing weekends in a long time. As it stands now even Phil and Els might be too far away unless he collapses, and they're 6th and 7th.

Kman34 04-11-2015 08:20 AM

They can dry that course up and he won't score as well or fall back..... But that means its hard for everyone else to catch him too...

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2015 12:21 PM

Scoring is really good so far. If Spieth plays B-level golf he's going to get to -20.

Of course, if his putter deserts him or if he struggles with his irons a lot of guys could close the gap.

Runaway majors are terribly disappointing. If Phil isn't going to win, I'd just as soon prefer him to anyone else on the leaderboard, and certainly over that cokehead, philandering **** Dustin Johnson.

That's 13 for you. It's the easiest hole on the course by a significant margin, and with the greens as soft as they are, what is normally the nastiest pin position is a total patsy.

TribalElder 04-11-2015 02:19 PM

Tiger "in the" Woods

I meant -20 by the end; six under over the last two days. That would break the scoring record by two.

Oh ok. That makes more sense. My bad haha

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2015 02:53 PM

Sometimes golf telecasts are really annoying with their narrativizing. There was nothing resilient about that front nine, Nantz; it was some pretty mediocre golf buoyed by the break of the day.

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 04-11-2015 03:01 PM

Does Spieth talk to every ball for the entirety of the shot? **** this guy.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2015 03:17 PM

Sometimes I feel like the only difference between pros and amateurs is that every shot they hit into the woods bounces out and ours go farther in.

Air has really been let out of this tournament. Spieth hit two poor approaches on 9 and 10 and played the holes -1. Sometimes it's just your week.

The transformation Tiger has made in such a short time is pretty incredible. First time he's had back to back rounds in the 60s in a major in nearly 3 years.

I wouldn't read too much into that. He knows this course better than any other one on tour, save Torrey Pines. It is almost perfectly suited to his game. Even when his life was in shambles in 2010 he still made a hell of a run.

This is a course for a specific type of horse. Nicklaus always scored low here, even finishing T-6 as a 58 year old, and Couples' play in recent years is another good example.

To go from not being able to hit a golf shot to competing with the best in the world in 2 months is a pretty major step.

He was perfectly able to hit a golf shot. He's also spent the last two months practicing non-stop and he's playing a course he knows as well as anyone in the field.

You're talking about a guy who had only made 1 cut in a year and a guy who doesn't even have a top 10 at this level since August 2013. But sure, this was completely expected. LMAO

You really need to stay out of golf threads. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Tiger won five times in 2013 and was the POTY. He was injured last year. Amazingly, he shows up to a course where his career finishes as a pro are:

1, 8, 18, 5, 1, 1, 15, 22, 1, 3, 2, 2, 6, 4, 4, 40, 4 and plays well.

And even if it is "out of nowhere", this happens all the time in majors, and it especially happens at Augusta.

Oh, please. Listing off Tiger's many accomplishments and history on this golf course doesn't exactly mean a whole lot. Tiger Woods hasn't been that guy in nearly 2 years now. He's been a mess physically and mentally since the start of 2014 and wasn't even able to play tournament golf 2 months ago. But yeah, I'm sure you called this performance. LMAO

I'm not saying I called his performance, but saying that he hasn't been that guy in two years when he was the POTY in 2013 is intellectually dishonest horseshit, and your posts bespeak a complete ignorance of how important local knowledge is at Augusta, as anyone with a cursory understanding of Masters history knows.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2015 04:14 PM

The amazing thing about how Spieth is playing is that he's not overpowering the golf course. He's just executing absolutely perfectly with a few fortuitous bounces tossed in.

Obviously Tiger has a great history at Augusta and obviously that's helping him here. No shit. That doesn't mean Tiger Woods was at all ready to play this kind of golf two months ago. He hasn't played anything close to this since 2013.

All I made was a fairly innocuous comment giving some credit to Tiger Woods for getting back to this level so quickly and you decided to be the absolute argumentative **** you are over it.

tk13 04-11-2015 04:18 PM

Justin Rose from the bunker on 16. Making a run.

So you decided to get into a petty meaningless argument over how amazing you think I think Tiger Woods' tournament is (based on an innocuous comment giving him credit for the massive change in 2 months, a change which clearly can't be disputed). And it's a me issue. OK then, Hamas. LMAO

When you say stupid shit like he couldn't hit a golf shot two months ago and he hasn't done anything for two years you deserve to get called out for stupidity. You're the one who got bitchy about it, not me.

Again, 2013 POTY. Injured in 2014. This isn't Steve Stricker losing his game for half a decade and then playing the best golf of his career.

Justin Rose's best finish this year is 37th and he's nearly a half dozen shots ahead of Tiger. This is golf. This is what happens from week to week.

I kind of hope so, but I don't think this is over yet. Spieth has struggled before with Sunday nerves and this is the Masters with Phil Mickelson behind him.

I get that he was great in 2013 and then got hurt. But people were talking about this guy being "done" as a top golfer two months ago after those tournaments. Obviously that was complete exaggeration, but to get back to this kind of high level so quickly (considering the state he was in) is still surprising.

He could still blade the pitch into the flagstick and have it drop dead in.

If this were anyone else on a normal day, I would say he has a two percent chance of getting up and down and a 10% chance of double if he gets ballsy, but this kid is running so hot I wouldn't be surprised if he went full Larry Mize.
