Good God. A ****ing baptist school in Waco is the toast of the conference.

Nothing like a ten team midwestern conference that includes the number two program in Iowa, the number two program in Kansas, the number two program in Oklahoma, the number 3, 4, & 5 programs in Texas...and West Virginia. All this to go along with two historic powers who are slowly bleeding out.

The SEC ought to be more worried that they've fallen behind the PAC-12 football this year, their basketball is still utterly embarrassing, and traditional powers like Tennessee and Florida have become national jokes.

Because I'm constantly hearing jokes about Tennessee and Florida on all the national outlets.

And who says the Pac-12 is better than the SEC? Besides you, that is.

Oh no! Some dumb computer thinks that the SEC might only be the second best conference! That same league won't play for a title and probably only gets one team into a BCS bowl, but oh no!

They are not that unlike the Big 12, there are two teams that feast on all the others, and even those two teams are overrated.

I like how actually watching games is a punch line to you...fits right in with your "records don't mean shit" philosophy.

You're a special kind of stupid... You're a Kansas homer, but Kansas fans can't stand you. You're a conservative, but every conservative in DC thinks you're an idiot.

Why do you even bother? Surely there must be a board somewhere on the net that isn't filled with people who can't stand you. Just look for one without Mizzou fans nor Kansas fans nor Democrats nor Republicans. (The one thing that those groups all seem to agree on is that you suck at life.)

Does Sagaran have a message board? You should try posting there until he comes up with a formula showing what a shit poster you are. Then, you might as well swallow the business end of a pistol seeing as you'll have nothing left to live for.

That the best team doesn't always win a game, which is true.

PB seems at least to rely on those computer ratings too exclusively and religiously IMO although they are a useful tool.

I typically assume the better team won b/c the games count and they matter more than anything else unless there is evidence to state otherwise. A 3-8 team beating an 8-3 conference opponent would be an exaggerated and obvious example but it doesn't have to be that dramatic.

Most analysts are saying that the Big 12 will either be playing for the NC or have two teams in the BCS.

Sucks for a league with only 10 teams.

That's cute. Most analysts are saying the SEC will WIN the NC AND have two teams in the BCS...pretty much like every year.

Good for the Big 12. All you need is for a better team's QB to rape someone, and you're in the big game.

Big XII. WVU is hurting right now but I think they will become competitive and a valuable addition. TCU should have never been invited, they are worthless.

After that, it's a push. CU is a mess and has been for the better part of 10 years. Rutgers? Meh.

I saw something like this on an SEC rivals board. The consensus there was the best move was the SEC getting Mizzou and ATM and the worst move was split between the Big 12 and the recent moves of the BIG with Maryland and Rutgers.

Eh, I don't really have a good reason. They would be a better addition than TCU but worse than UCF/USF IMO.

Saul Good 11-22-2013 09:56 AM

South Florida would be a terrible add. Gross. I guess I could sort of understand taking them with UCF with the thought process being that neither of them really gives you a strong presence in Florida by themselves, but having both of them might.

God, this post was reeruned.

GoChargers 11-22-2013 11:23 AM

IMO, the smartest play for the Big 12 might be to add BYU and Boise. BYU brings a huge nationwide fanbase, Boise adds a strong football brand in a conference starving for those. They'd certainly get better ratings than Cincy or UCF would. This would expand the Big 12's footprint and allow them to directly compete with the PAC.

When I gave a large rat's ass what happened to the Big 12, I was hoping they'd add BYU (for precisely the reason you stated) and make a hard push to add Air Force.

I know, it seems like a bizarre add, but Air Force has a routinely credible football program. Moreover, there is a prestige associated with the service acadamies.

Both schools would give you something of a national cache. They'd have provided strong academics, a pretty pristine reputation for excellence in fields other than athletics, and a couple of solid football programs that occasionally make a little noise in basketball. Air Force would've even been a solid regional pickup and BYU damn sure wouldn't have been any worse from a geography perspective than WVU.

Instead they added another Texas school, just a far worse one and a school from the armpit of America that nobody gives a rip about.

Those still feel like panic adds to me.

Lotsa slow learners around here. There is no need for the Big 12 to do anything. The fact they haven't done anything is all the proof you need. No adds are going to create incremental revenue to the existing 10 members. So they're not ever going to get invites. Is this hard to understand?

Feeding the hungry is a noble thing in life. But it's not really that common in re-alignment talks.

To replace A&M. Fox Sports said that was fine with them in order to keep the payout structure whole for the Big 12. According to Beebe's quotes which were dug up in FOIA requests, he had been informed by Fox that so long as Texas stayed, that was the big value driver.

You could add "inventory" with any number of teams, many of which people would actually want to see. Why, specifically, was TCU chosen? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Of course. Every sports league has to have some dogs in it. Why do you think the Royals exist in the AL, or Mississippi State exists in the SEC?

The difference is that Mississippi State would NOT be sought out for membership today.

Bambi 11-22-2013 02:50 PM

Why would the Big 12 add schools? The member institutions are seeing more money than they ever have in the conference's history and every single football game has a national platform due to the low number of games.

Not only that but the round robin football and home/away basketball schedules are awesome.

Different strokes I suppose.

You're right on the financial situation but I'm not that high on the round robin. I don't like playing 2 extra games vs our league in basketball, rather play elite teams around the country. If you go back to the Big 8 days we dedicated only 14 games to these clowns. Now it's 18. Hate giving dogs like TCU and Tech home games vs us each year.

It definitely is easier in both sports especially football.

Look at the SEC for example. The East is much weaker than the West allowing marginal teams to sit atop the standings for a good amount of the year.

If forced to play everyone in the league there is no dodging great teams whether they be in your division or not.

I wouldn't mind the round robin at all if Mizzou and A&M were still in the conference. But I can't really get excited for 4 games of basketball vs TCU and West Virginia.

After that, it's a push. CU is a mess and has been for the better part of 10 years. Rutgers? Meh.

Who would want to go to WVU and deal with their travel issues? Seems like a big recruiting disadvantage to me.

West Virginia has two players in their 2014 class from within the Big 12 footprint...2. One is a two star from Morgantown. The other is a three star from Hutch CC.

That is not sustainable over the long term. (And they're only the 47th best class, so it's not like they caught lightning in a bottle and can weather a few down classes while they shift their focus.)
