You could also try a rf who could hit lhp, allowing Craig to play 1b more. I dunno who's out there though. |
So when do pitchers and catchers report?

Yeah, I figure it's time to get this rolling.

Carpenter will be in the front office
ST. LOUIS • Cardinals starter and the winningest pitcher in the club's postseason history Chris Carpenter will join the club's front office in a role that is still in the process of being defined. Carpenter and general manager John Mozeliak had a meeting earlier this month to discuss a post-retirement role for the pitcher. Mozeliak announced this morning that they came to an agreement on a position, one that would not be in uniform. Carpenter is interested in learning about various aspects of the front office and could be involved in the scouting process, Mozeliak said. The details and the title of the job are being written by him now. Mozeliak called Carpenter "unofficially onboard." He referenced the i's that need dots and the t's that need crosses -- including a job title -- before Carpenter's next employment can be formally announced. Carpenter will have a role in spring training with the major-league club. He will not be in Jupiter, Fla., for the entire stretch. Mozeliak said that Carpenter will be enrolled in the spring program that the Cardinals have for many of their young scouts. Mozeliak envisions a way for Carpenter to get experience at several levels of scouting. That is similar to what former closer Ryan Franklin did before moving into a special assistant to the general manager role. |

What do you guys think of Larussa going into the HOF with a blank cap? Seems to have pissed some off. No biggie to me.
|
Meh, don't really care. Unless you were with 1 team your whole career who cares
|
So reading some Cardinal stuff online got me thinking, apparently even with bringing in Peralta, we have quite a bit of cap space and some young pitching to spare (potentially).
If the right deal/player were to come along, a move could be made. What player/move could come along that would make you think twice about this? Who would you make a move for? |

Salary cap.

Free payroll fits better there.

When Taveras is ready what do you do with Adams if you move Craig back to 1st base. Unless you plug him into CF and just deal with his defense. I guess it is a good problem to have.
|
I know a lot of you around here are Cards fans.
But, i am not. Respect to your team...but i hate the ****ing cardinals! That is all...thank you for your attention. |

And I don't drop in much, but for whatever reason I saw it on the front page and had to post my feelings about your team. I didn't leave though. If you want to let it slide that's fine, if not do what you have to do. |

Peter Bourjos is the CF of this team. Not Jon Jay, and not Oscar.

However, when (not if) Bourjos is on the DL, I say play Oscar every day. See if he can handle it.

If they start Jay and just let Bourjas start against lefty's I'll be pissed. |

I guess I'm looking forward to baseball, to an extent. Meh, the Braves are a carbon copy of the Chief's come playoffs though.
|
in the Braves defense - the DID lose two starting pitchers, so that really hurt this, last year.

We saw what happened when Larussa flapped his gums about Rasmus. We lost a helluva lot trade value when he did that. Besides I'm not on board with Hamas's position that robinson is good as a 4th outfielder. I'm assuming that if Bourjas goes down with an injury for any length of time, Taveras gets the call up to the big show. |
Garcia shut down after experiencing shoulder pain during his throwing program. Going to St. Louis for an MRI.

Uh
Just move on from the guy ffs |

It would be nice to have a lefty in the lineup but Martinez or Kelly can step in and replace him. |
Wow! Looks like 19 guys are going to turn over in your 25 man roster! Radical!!

Store this away: Any time a pitcher hurts his shoulder just throw him in the gutter. |
That sucks, but did any of you guys actually think he was gonna be in te rotation anyway?
I'd love to have a lefty in there but I'm about ready to see little Pedro get te shot |
Quote:
Sucks for him but we still have a deep pitching staff. We can even lose another pitcher and still have no problem having a top level staff. |
Quote:
Waino, Miller, Lynn, Wacha, Kelly is your rotation. I still think they keep Martinez as the setup man, even though I'd love for him to get the shot. Lyons will spell some guys. |
Kelly doesn't miss a lot of bats but this seems to be an easy choice for him to slide right into that spot.

I'm going to try and really appreciate this core we have right now, because it's unlikely we'll ever see anything like it again. Other teams are going to begin raiding our scouts and executives en masse. Several teams are already beginning to copy the organizational blueprint. One one who sucks the penis from the Angels even stole the damned book. This will be remembered as a golden era, but we need to strike in the next few years, because you can't keep these kinds of teams together forever. |
Never expected Garcia to be a big part of this team anyway. Opens a spot for a guy who can stay healthy.

We ain't the Yankees, Angel, Dodgers etc. We can't cover up mistakes with out $2 Billion TV contracts. We have at least 4 years. Yadi will be done as a catcher. Then we have Rosenthal and Miller hitting FA. Waino will be coming off the books so we can pay one. But next year we got Martinez and Wacha hitting FA. Starting with the WS Championship, we have a 7 year window. Thats a pretty damn big window for a team with our payroll. We got 4 years of planning to replace them. |

So, anyone else see yesterdays ST opener? Not a lot of excitement outside of the Wisdom HR. But nothing to really worry about, either.

Gonzalez the soft tossing lefty left several pitches up. Not just one or two but almost every batter. Martinez pitched great. He left a curve hang and you can't do that. One mistake. At least he kept it together and moved on. I love that fastball that dives inside on the right handers. Impressive. Way too much upside. If he is ready, we can't keep him out of the starting rotation. He can dominate a game. I sure hope Wong gets it together and doesn't let the slump get into his head. He's hit at every level, he should hit at the big show. Bourgas is one fast outfielder. |
A couple of notes from today's win. Grichuk as advertised as considerable pop, and looks like he has made considerable adjustments to be able to cover the entire zone. He hit one off the end of the bat to the wall in center.
Piscotty has a cannon. Threw out a runner tagging from third from normal depth in right. The ball came in like a missile on the fly. |

Have you guys saw Tim Cooney pitch? I know its spring training and it was the Mets....... but, the dudes curve ball is that big left curve that gives MLB batters fits. He hits his spot. Many times Cruz barely moves his glove.
Was also nice to see Wacha throwing his curve ball with two strikes and men in scoring position. If he can throw that curve ball for a strike, he will take it to the Cy Young level. |

PSA - STL/Pedsox is on Fox Sports 1.
Miller on the mound. PS - **** Boston. |
Thanks for the heads up! I just turned it on. I never get STL games in Nashville.

I recently purchased one of those spring training caps. Damn comfortable and a sharp looking hat.

I think I will cave in and buy MLB exta innings this year. |

I think $120 but you get MLB at bat for free. I buy that every year, so basically $100. A bar close to my house has it and I spent a lot of last summer up there watching games. So I spent at least $120 on bar tabs.

I assume this still applies but check the blackout map first.

Agreed. That hat is definitely one of my favorites. Footballfanatics.com is having a 40% off sale merchandise so I picked up one of the home red caps with the World Series patch from this past year for $14 last night too. |
I found one with the WS patch but couldn't pull the trigger, I guess I'm still bitter. I have a WS hat from 2011 that I still wear all the time.
|
Man... I'm glad to see a SS that can hit.

Ken Rosenthal reported today that they're really close to an extension with Matt Carpenter, rumored to be around 6 years, $55 million, buying out his last pre-arb year, all 3 arb-eligible years, and his first 2 FA years. It would run through the 2018 season when he'd be 33. Seems like pretty fair numbers on both sides IMO
