FAU is not a guy I'm happy to see as a Chief. I think he's going to be fantastic.

CupidStunt 04-28-2023 07:54 AM

He's one of a handful of guys I just didn't look into or think much about, for whatever reason. McDonald was another. I'm not even sure why. Some vague idea that they wouldn't take the 6-7-8th guys at a position, which doesn't even really make sense if it's a deep group, which of course it is.

I guess the main thing I like on the surface is that he only turned 21 in January. That's a huge positive to me, especially in the 1st round. Someone who isn't totally raw, he's produced and knows how to play, but he's also got a bunch of room to grow. We need someone who can help us repeat, but also with upside.

Fingers crossed we hit. Our Nascar package looks nice with GK-CJ-Omen-FAU.

O.city 04-28-2023 07:55 AM

Him being 21 is a big deal, when you compare him to some of the other guys. I'd have rather had McDonald but obviously that wasn't happening.

In 4 or 5 years he will be know as one of the best edge's in the NFL. I was surprised he was available. EMAW!

/jk, I lke the pick.

chiefzilla1501 04-28-2023 08:04 AM

I’m pretty good with this. I would’ve preferred a WR but a pass rusher will do too.

There’s also a part of me that felt we didn’t trade up or down so we can announce the last pick of the night. Overall, an insanely cool build up to the pick. But wonder if we could’ve at least traded back so someone else can grab a qb.

I’ll weigh in here
I think FAU is a solid pick at a premium position.
Personally, I liked Foskey better as an edge prospect but I won’t argue Veach’s board.
Overall, a B-

But seriously, no. Didn’t even realize it until I finished and looked at the names lol.

And by the time we have to pay them, Jonesy will be done with his extension most likely, and either retiring or settling into a less expensive rotational role.

Dude was the Big 12 defensive player of the year and had 89 pressures over his last two seasons. His RAS was like top 100 or so in the last 25 years.

He was absolutely going to be drafted right around where he was. He didn’t go earlier than projected.

No one tell Prison Bitch that there's a black guy with a foreign name living in his town.

Dante84 04-28-2023 09:27 AM

I'm naturally excited because I'm a K-State guy, so I actually was trying to harness that last night and view it through a neutral or even negative lens.

After some sleep, I'm realizing that that any negative feelings I had last night were more about how shitty the board was to us, and nothing about this player. That's worn off.

Now, keeping a neutral lens on this player, and there's so many things I love (aside from his alma mater):

- He's only 21
- He's still physically growing and will only get bigger/stronger, which has been a trend he's been on for the past 3 years.
- He played in less-than-ideal position (inside) often in a 3-4 front at K-State, and still produced pressures and sacks despite being the primary focus for the offense.
- I have seen him wreck a game, Derrick Thomas style. He had 6 sacks in a game to set the NFL record, but because he so violently hit the QB, the QB actually fumbled the ball forward on two of them, and so they took the sack stat away. Absurd, but yeah.

The only thing I remember being grumpy about when watching games the last two years was that sometimes he would disappear. I think a lot of that was the opposing offense scheming him out of the picture, doubling him, etc...

If he does it right, with Jones being the primary focus, I think the kid has Tamba Hali floor and Justin Houston upside in the next couple years. I'm not saying he'll get 22 sacks a year, but I think he's going to be a bad mf'er that they're gonna have to deal with.

Also wasn't playing essentially a 3-tech (4-shade really) in a 3-3-5.

McDonald may not have ever been asked to add weight.

Though if it weren't something that FAU could do reasonably well, he's probably not playing DL and would've ended up playing Will...

Yeah, a lot of it had to do with him being overshadowed by the SEC, which always happens to a certain extent. Also there wasn’t a lot of separation in the 1B tier of DE anyway.

Honestly one could argue that between his production and his RAS he should have gone HIGHER.

Iconic 04-28-2023 10:40 AM

I think Veach did the absolute best he could with FAU.

Majority of teams ahead of us were in direct competition with us for a Lombardi last year ie. Eagles, Bills, Bengals. Felt terrible for Veach after listening to the presser because it sounds like teams weren't picking up the phone when they saw him on the caller ID. And if they were, it was at an extreme unjustifiable premium.

We pretty much got dicked for being overly successful. Not to mention if you listened to Reid it sounds as if they really thought long and hard about overpaying to move up but in the end abstained.

Props to the FO for their discipline. I bet last night was real tough to swallow.

What does Bakersfield have to do with it? I don't think that gives anyone special insight into an NFL draft board.

So unless Joey Porter Jr was "gangbanging" back in elementary school, someone completely made some shit up.

Also, we're gonna need a new name for this guy, cuz FAU aint it. Feels like we're talking about the university.

I feel like there's something with the initials of his last name being the symbol for gold, but that's as far as I've gotten.

He looks like he is standing still in the pictures I have seen

I have some insight on why porter Jr fell. He's athletic, but just not as good as the corners who went ahead of him. He's not his dad, and the media narrative putting him in the first round was based on name recognition and not his play. NFL teams are aware of it, but the media is clueless.

He fell because he doesn't have ball skills, the NFL values the ever loving shit out of CBs that get picks. He doesn't have ball production and his testing numbers aren't stupid like Deonte Banks so he fell a bit. He also isn't good in zone so now you have..

Scheme specific, lack of ball production and non elite measurables so he drops.

Felix is an ass kicker and this feels like another Bolton, Humphrey player where you get him an not only do they have a high floor but the ceiling is high too.

This is also what happens when you pick at the end of rounds...

Guys who are just good football players fall while guys with elite measurables get picked higher.

Is it actual gangbanger or Ja Morant gangbanger?

Kiimo 04-28-2023 11:19 AM

I simply can not tell you what a gigantic shit hole Bakersfield is.

Never trust anything someone says if they're from Bakersfield. To give you an idea, I think their biggest celebrity is that Eatdatpussy freak show

So unless Joey Porter Jr was "gangbanging" back in elementary school, someone completely made some shit up.

He still has family and connections back to Bakersfield. Maybe my friend is wrong. He's been pretty reliable when it comes to NFL information. He went to school with David Carr and is still friends with him, so a lot of his information comes from him. He didn't say whether this was from Carr or not. Just that he trusted the information. I hope that he's mistaken and the kid is just falling for other reasons. Take it for what it is. Believe it or don't. I just heard the information and thought that I would share it
