Dex tweaked a hamstring today #chiefs Bob Fescoe@bobfescoe1m Reid hopes Moeaki is ready for training camp #chiefs |
Adam Teicher@adamteicher40s
Big day today for Tyson Jackson. Knocked down a pair of passes at line and got to Alex Smith for what would have been a sack LMAO |
TE TJ Knowles and NT Raheem Stanley never signed or even tried out at the rookie camp. They were announced on twitter as signed but that never materialized
|
Brad Madison at 265 you would think would line up at OLB. I think they may try him at DE giving him #77 Havent been able to tell which group he is practicing with according to the OTA pics though. He's kind of in the same boat as Catapano at 270. Bulk them up a little and they could bring some athleticism to the DE spot. I think there was a tweet out there Madison would try to long snap too.
Neiko Thorpe moved to CB early last year and I imagine thats where this staff views him as they look for big press corners. Off balance a little on the CB and S numbers. I could see them trying Juan Castillo's kid and This bronson kid both at CB too with their 5-11 185 size. Both would probably be better suited for zone as CB's though |
Adjusted the S and CB lineups.
|
other than thorpe I have no idea. It will be interesting to see where they line some of those guys up. Ton of safties and not many true corners

How many more weeks of OTAs are left....?

Adam Teicher@adamteicher5m
Just back from #Chiefs practice. Sloppy day for the offense. Lot of dropped passes, false start penalties. Reid got after them at 1 point |
Adam Teicher@adamteicher3m
McCluster did not participate in practice. Injured his hamstring last week |
Arrowhead Pride@ArrowheadPride6m
Chiefs UDFA DT Risean Broussard was waived today http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/5...ed-free-agents |
Regarding significant upcoming dates:
Arrowhead Pride @ArrowheadPride 3h @mr_tomahawk mandatory minicamp june 4 to 6. Deadlin for tagged players to sign longterm deals in mid july. Camp in late july |
If Knile Davis can stay healthy, I think the Chiefs will have the best RB duo in the league.

Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed to see if we can sign Albert to a long deal. Having both those bookends for several years helps take the sting off of the 2013 draft's results. And once Albert signs a long deal (likely his last) we can stick him anywhere we decide on the line. |

@SeanKeeler: That's new: #Chiefs LB Akeem Jordan says team will 'group text' with one another over the next 6 weeks. Interesting. #NFL

Do we have any news on Nico Johnson?
|
@RavensInsider: Chiefs fourth-round linebacker Nico Johnson's deal worth $2.671 million, including $486,000 bonus.

So, i think the only question is... is it Bray or Stanzi who makes the cut?
|
Quote:
Bray will win the 3rd spot. He was brought in by the new regime. Stanzi has generated absolutely zero buzz this off-season. Hell, Bray has generated more buzz than butt-chin. |

Chiefs signed Vince Agnew. Added.

Based on your roster, D, I got to 52 players. Can't figure out the last player to make 53. Maybe Harris but doubtful they keep 4 TEs? Maybe a 5th CB but which one?
|
looks pretty darn good.
|
I keep coming back and looking at this pre-TC roster, and the only serious concern I have is D-Line, specifically DE.
Lot of IFs, but IF Poe and/or Powe can fill the NT spot and IF Jackson and DeVito can hold the run, that will help this D tremendously. But, where is the push from this DLine in the new scheme? Will the scheme alone help the DLinemen push the pocket, or are these guys the same guys who will always be guys that don't push, rather GET pushed? Our 2nd CB and S starters are still making me a bit anxious, and clearly we will be relying on RBs & TEs as our secondary playmakers in the passing game after Bowe, unless Baldwin shows up to work on Sundays in the Fall vs weekdays in the Summer. Have other minor concerns with depth mostly, but it's damn shade better than LY. |
The scheme alone allows the DL to pursue the QB, plus more blitzing other than just Hali and/or Houston will help a lot too.
|
How crazy i didn't even mention QB as a position of concern.
Think it's a combination of how much better it looks vs. LY, and also the tempered expectations of what we're gonna get w/ Alex. I think he'll do fine, but not enough to get an extension, and simply bridges the gap to pulling this franchise out of the landfill. Which, again, is an improvement. If he surprises, great! If he doesn't, the rest of the team is in a better position next year for Tyler Bray vs. newly drafted rookie (probably not a 1st rounder, just my hunch) to fight him for starter's gig in 2014. |
Quote:
Mike DeVito was in the scheme his WHOLE career in NY and he still was one of the worst pass rushers in the NFL. The only guy with any pass rush hope is Poe, DeVito and Jackson are lost causes. |
Jackson is capable.

DL is my concern as well, but I think they will be capable enough. It's more that it will take some games before they really understand their assignments and will have to adjust to a completely different style of play. While they learn, we are going to be susceptible to the running game.
As for WR, don't forget about Donnie Avery. He averaged four catches for 60 yards a game for the Colts last year. That's nothing to sneeze at, especially if he can stretch the field and make room for our TE's and RB's underneath. And, there is the whole Matt Cassel factor; made everyone look worse than they likely were. |

Yeah, but a lot of them had also only played with Huard or Thigpen. Baby steps.

Yeah, I'm not going to take it as meaning too much yet. Just thought it'd be interesting to post.

What is the next deadline on a long-term contract with Brandon Albert? I was thinking July 15th or so.

Personally I don't think they are going out of their way to really sign BA long term. My opinion only, but think they're goin thru the motions, but have every intention of playing out the 1 yr tag deal and let him walk, thus moving Fish to the left next year.
|
Signing BA to a long term deal is going to help our otherwise constrained salary cap. We have alot of dead money on the books this year, and may need some contract help just to get all our rookies signed.
In addition, it gives us two good tackles for the next 4-5 years, which is a very good position to be in. I don't think the coaching staff particularly cares where they line up, and BA won't really care once he is signed long-term as well. The only one who will eventually start to care is Fisher, but he has several years before he has to worry about that. And, when the NFL signs a new TV contract it is expected to be for quite a bit more, which will raise the salary cap and salary floor. Large guarantee money with a fairly backloaded contract is probably the fiscally responsible thing to do in this case. Finally, it will make some of the anti-Fish people to have to shut up if we weren't basically swapping BA + 1st overall pick for Fisher. |

How many tackles in the NFL are "playing at a high level" at age 33 or 34? Besides that, Albert is barely above average at age 28 and he'll be 29 mid-season. Quote:
And then he's still on the books in 2015. Quote:

There are plenty of players that play well, especially with a move to right tackle to prolong their career. Eric Winston, Locklear for the Giants, Winston Justice, Todd Herremans, David Stewart, Tyson Clabo, etc.. All of these players are between six and ten years in the league and are still productive and playing at a relatively high level. Quote:
Good, we want him on the books in 2015. You think he is going to go from his prime to absolute crap in two years? That's one hell of a prediction Quote:

Rookies salaries are included in our salary cap as soon as they are drafted, but they are included at the minimum active list salary, which is roughly $405,000 this year. Clearly Fisher is going to exceed that by quite a bit.
There is no separate rookie salary pool, that is just minimum and maximum values which the team must/cannot exceed when signing their rookies. http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.ph...iefs&Year=2013 However, it looks like the Chiefs rolled over 14 million salary cap space from 2012 into 2013, so that would alleviate the problem, at least per Adam Teicher. |
Here is an old salary article, but it does have the carry-over for all NFL teams.
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2...p-room-by-team It has our carry-over of $14,079,650, giving us a team salary cap of $132,842,454. |
An article on the salary cap that claims we really have $20,000 in free cap room after we sign Fisher.

John Clayton just said B Albert getting signed has a chance. He said they are gonna offer him a contract as late as today and see if he will accept it by Monday.

IMO if he doesn't sign today he will be traded sooner or later. |
Any changes to the roster in the OP?
