I'm not "whining" whatsoever.

Being objective is not whining.

You want to blow Dorsey for this draft, go right ahead.

I think it wasn't that great.

Not enough to start getting defensive and calling names to people who were critical of it anyway.

There was not 1 WR better than Conley after he was picked. Montgomery and Coates had several drops in college and fell bc of it.

Conley has the athleticism, smarts and production in a run first offense to be a nice #2 WR.

For Christ sakes. The guy averaged 17 or more yards per catch in 3 of his 4 years, including his last year when he had 657 yards and 8 TD's on only 36 catches.
If he was on a pass first team he would have had at least 12 TD's, 1,000+ yards and a first round grade.

Huge question mark at 1.

Enormous reach at 2.

Conley was okay at 3 but there were guys available who had nearly the same measurables with substantially more production. Nobody knew who Conley was until his numbers at the Combine. Guy was a pedestrian receiver in college, despite his prodigious physical gifts. And we lost a pick moving up for him, which doesn't help the draft grade.

Nelson is a returner and nickle CB. How many more guys like that do we need on the roster?

Wilson is an inside/outside guy that doesn't make any impact plays and all of his tackles are past the line of scrimmage that he's joining in on. He was the one ILB prospect that I hoped we didn't draft.

Alexander, like a lot of Dorsey picks to date, is a walking wounded. He's had multiple injuries over his college career and, despite Dorsey's seemingly reliance on measurables, doesn't measure very well.

Plus three small school dudes who don't have any elite traits.

It was a shitty draft.

Free agency was ridiculously bad considering what holes the roster had and who we picked up. A bunch of try hards from Outer South Eastern Mongolian Community College.

See, everything about this post goes back to the arrogance I was speaking of. This is just a classic example of how YOU are a better scout than the pros. No, they are not always right. You may end up more right. But this goes back to you having your own firm conclusions of who is good and who is not... and it contrasts with the KC decision-makers.

At least consider the possibility that they have far more resources and knowledge of these prospects than you do. I get it... believe me. I would do the same thing as you in older times. I get so fixated for months about these prospects that I convince myself of who we should have selected.

Now, it's probably time to just concede that just maybe... we.. the arm-chair, draft enthusiasts love the process... but the actual results wreck our little fantasy land of thinking we know much.

What is this huge question mark bullshit with Peters? It's not like the guy has come out stating that there wasn't a problem and he doesn't know why he was kicked off the team. He owned up to it and has moved past it. FFS.....

O.city 05-11-2015 09:16 AM

Yeah, while we give sacks alot of grief for this, it's fine to have opinions and such on this. He didn't like who they picked, I don't see a problem with that.

Of course he doesn't have the info the league does, but it's a message board

The Franchise 05-11-2015 09:31 AM

Here's my preferred 7th round draft.....

1st - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
2nd - Ali Marpet, OC/OC, Hobart
3rd - Chris Conley, WR, Georgia
3rd - Steven Nelson, CB, Oregon State
4th - DeAndre Smelter, WR, Georgia Tech
5th - D.J. Alexander, ILB, Oregon State
5th - Michael Bennett, DT/DE, Ohio State
6th - Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame
7th - Zach Vigil, ILB, Utah State

RunKC 05-11-2015 10:14 AM

As much as I hated the Morse pick, I'd rather have him than Marpet. Morse is a strong m'fer who apparently played extremely well against SEC opponents.

I like Morse more if we had to take OL.

RunKC 05-11-2015 10:24 AM

FWIW

1. Marcus peters CB Washington
2. Clive Walford TE Miami
3. Chris Conley WR Georgia
3. Steven Nelson CB Oregon state
4. Max Garcia C Florida-this is what we should have done goddamnit
5. Darren Waller WR Georgia Tech
5. michael Bennett DL Ohio state
6. DJ Alexander LB Oregon state-I think he still would have been there
7. Zach Vigil LB Utah state

Shut down the thread, it has been debunked!!

Marcus Peters - A. Top 10 player taken at 18. Good value. Only real risk is that he beats Alex Smith to a pulp in a moment of rage on the sideline when Smith checks down on 3rd and 9.

Mitch Morse - D. Apparently KC tried to trade up. The pick felt like a reach. I thought, "well, I guess I understand the pick if they kick him inside to RG", then they announced he would compete at center. Really? Only a handful of games a few years back at the position and his snapping was atrocious. Doesn't appear to be the upgrade the team desperately needed on OL. I don't like the idea of rookies competing at multiple positions on the OL, especially with C involved. If they move him to RG or RT, I'd grade it as a B. As a center his college highlights looked really bad.

Chris Conley B-. Seems a little like a panic move after the run on receivers in round 2. This is the type of pick Chief fans made fun of Al Davis for years ago. Workout warrior with limited impact in actual games. Seems like a boom or bust type player. A move KC had to make since they've been so damn picky with WR's the last two years. Hopefully he plays toward his ceiling and KC will have a big fast #2 WR. Hasn't happened since Kennison.

Steve Nelson - B. My first impression was "another CB? Did I nap and miss a few picks where we grabbed an ILB? The kid from TCU is still on the board right?" Then, I saw clips of him playing like the old Mighty Mouse. I understand the pick. KC had trouble with QB's like Manning who get rid of the ball in 3 seconds or less. Can't get to the QB that quickly. The only way around it is to mug and hit the receivers on the line. It looks like Nelson will be able to do that to buy some time for the pass rush.

Rest of the picks - I could complain that they should have taken some different receivers or been mavericks and grabbed Collins at some point. I mean, Dorsey doesn't exactly put character high on the shelf. But, at the end of the day you are lucky to get any impact from the day three guys, so who really cares. It's a dart toss.

Couch-Potato 05-12-2015 06:24 PM

I went back and looked at the draft round for round. Honestly, after taking a look at who fell where, I felt a lot better about who we chose given the spots we were in.

My only fantasy GM move that I would've liked to see us play out would have been grabbing an OC in FA, picking an ILB or maybe Max Williams in the 2nd, and using a late pick on the rights to La'el Collins.

Williams, arguably would have added more to our passing game than any one of the remaining WRs. Strong is a downfield 50-50 guy and that's not A Smith's game, Lockett is apparently too much like DAT for Dorsey.

La'el is a rd 1 offensive lineman, and we could have had him for a 7th rounder?

Bewbies 05-13-2015 07:23 PM

I love the Conley pick, he's going to have a better pro career than he did at UGA. He's legit.

KC native 05-13-2015 09:38 PM

LMAO @ Sacco still drafting Vigil with a 5th in his revised draft despite the guy not being drafted.

BUT DAMMIT I KNOW HE'S WORTH IT! I WATCHED ALL HIS YOUTUBE HIGHLIGHTS!/sacco
