The American public is being turned off by the long term effects of the sport's brutality. Just like America became turned off by the effects of boxing on its participants.

Within the next 20 years, the NFL will try to slowly morph itself into a glorified skeleton passing drill and eventually fade from forefront of the American sports world.

Agreed. I've seen 'Real Steel'. Underground robot boxing is about to take over big time

The NFL will likely continue to have rule changes, and rule "emphasis" changes that will keep making the sport less dangerous. I'm not a big fan of these changes either, but when everyone is complaining about the pussification of the NFL, just remember (1) lawsuits, and (2) early retirements.

In 10 or 20 years, the NFL could be pretty different from what we see today.

Soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Those sports project well for the next few generations.

Baseball? Not really. Baseball hey day is long since in the rear view mirror. It's way too slow and boring for the younger generations, and young, talented American athletes tend to go into other sports, which is party of why pro baseball is increasingly dominated by athletes who weren't born in the US.

They are going to suck. Last in their division is my prediction.

Americans were turned off of boxing by the incomprehensible oversight and corruption. The Adrien Broner fight on NBC had more viewers than your typical MMA fight IIRC.

isn't this stuff an issue in all contact sports?

I wonder if soccer players get concussed when heading the ball.

taking a bunch of elbows to the melon in MMA has to have an effect

Hootie 03-17-2015 12:04 PM

dead league walking?

No way. As long as there are millions for players to be made, people will risk the long term for the short term.

Eventually, the players are going to have to concede to sign a waiver when they enter the league. No way around it.
