He's a better player than Cassel. By a lot. He's still a very average QB and I agree with your second comment. If he's a stopgap, I'm ok with it and I don't care how much they gave up for him.

Pretty much this. I envision Smith as a non descript dog that was hit by a bus and is now kind of reeruned but still somewhat useful in life. It's up to the owner(the team mates)to grab Smith by his tarded dog collar and drag him across the lawn(field), and pull him as far as they can while he scoots his ass across the grass.
