Be sure don't forget to stick that Gerbel up there right before you go in...

There is a small light on the end of the wand or hose (or whatever the proper name is for the torture device that goes up your ass).
If the bulb burns out part way through the procedure, they have to reel it back out, replace the bulb and then start over. The drugs only last for so long........And if they wear off in the middle of the procedure..... Not a memory you want to hang onto. (I don't understand how anyone could enjoy anything going up there. That's a one way street IMO. NTTAWWT) |
Some of us might not ever need a colonoscopy.
Seriously, here's a recent article from fivethirtyeight.com that details a more pleasant alternative for many of us. |
Colonoscopies fall into my "That was how it happened 20 years ago" category. It's a waste of $5500 and completely unnecessary. It's been shown over and over that a check of blood in the stool and a sigmoidoscopy will find any abnormalities.
It has also been shown that the prep drinks are really hard on the kidneys. "Doc! I have a sore throat!" "I have a cure for that!" "Doc! I took the medicine and my sore throat is gone, but I have anal bleeding!" "We have a pill for that, too!" |

So the prep isn't the most fun thing in the world but they discovered a bunch of stuff in my ascending colon last year and it gave me a chance to get it all removed surgically. Went in and cut a couple feet of intestines, sewed the ends together and three days later everything is working good as new again.
They told me without the procedure there was an extremely high likelihood that I would have had some real issues with the cancer starting right around this time. So don't die a stupid and preventable death. Go get a camera jammed up your butt as soon as possible! |
Just finished the first dose of prep for my scope in the a.m. Let the fun begin...

Crossed 5-0 recently, the wife who's a endoscopy nurse didn't let me wait long to get scheduled. Between her and your past thread and the great Lonewolf Ed it makes it hard to put off. |
