Daru's lineage is traced back to pre-feudal Japan.

An eight headed and eight tailed dragon meant to devour the 8th daughter of a Japanese family.

The Shinto god of sea and storm, Susanoo, who had recently been exiled from Heaven for betraying his sister, the sun god, was so taken by the young woman's beauty that he offered to slay the serpent in exchange for her hand in marriage.

The serpent was slayed after a tremendous battle, with Susanoo losing many of his holy artifacts, shield and sword included, but he had won his bride.

As payment for his betrayal in heaven, his wife was given a son, but was of the sostorm god and his sister's blood. In shame, his wife took her own life, but the son was born and the lineage of Daru started...
