I have a buddy who just picked up one of these and I was checking it out today. One bad ass scope. I think I'm going to look into investing in one of these at some point.

Does anyone know anything about Kel-Tech hand guns? Looking at getting thief compact 9mm. It's about the size of an LC9, which is what I have been looking for.

I also picked up a new Beretta PX4 Storm compact today. Time to hit the range Friday.

I had the compact 9mm. The PF9. Pile of junk that I dealt with and was chronicled in this thread. That little gun has a major problem with failure to eject. The spring that holds the extractor down is weak and will cause constant jams.

I was able to "fix" the problem by doubling up on the springs and getting an extractor screw that was 1/8 of an inch longer. After that the gun fired no problem but I got rid of it because I simply couldn't trust that it would go bang when I needed it to.

I looked at that when I got my M&P. Didn't care for the trigger.

Nice looking Beretta!

Here's a forum for Kel Tec owners, I hear they all benefit from a 'fluff and buff' as described at this site - should be instructions for most of their current models herein - http://www.thektog.org/forum/

I've fired a friend's PF9. It is small, light and uncomfortable to shoot. Not really an issue since it is made to carry, not spend hours at the range. My friend's PF9 had an issue (don't remember exactly, but it wasn't the extractor) which required sending back to the factory. They fixed it no questions asked.

Kel-Tec comes up with very innovative and creative designs. The downside is that early models of some guns have issues. If the gun you are looking at is a later production and you can put a couple hundred rounds through it, you should be fine.

I've put a more than 500 rounds through my P3AT with no issues and carry it daily.

I was really put off by that problem and wouldn't own another PF9 but I have their Sub2K and it is fantastic. The P3AT is also a great little gun.

:thumb: Nice I picked up a version of it in 45 a while back. The rotating barrel unlock system is an interesting design. It has the potential to be a bit more accurate than a tilting block design.

First time in this thread, so I apologize if this question has already been answered.

My petite (5'2", 115 or so), 19yo daughter went shooting (skeet, I think) with her college roommate and liked it. Now she wants a shotgun. I don't want to drop a ton of money on a starter gun for a hobby that I don't know will last, but I don't want to get her a piece of crap either.

Looking around on the internet, I came up with some positive recommendations for a TriStar Raptor Youth 20 gauge semi-automatic for approx. $400.

Does anyone have any comments about that particular gun or recommendations for an alternative?

I don't know what your definition is of a ton of money.

I dont really hear anything good about kel tec and they are based not far from here. If I am going to own a pistol, I dont really want a budget model. Glocks are affordable enough for anyone and reliable.

Couple things to find out…

Did she shoot skeet or Trap? Major difference that will impact gun selection Lots of people use the words interchangeably

If its a skeet gun, it will be best if barrel is slightly shorter and the stock is a hunting style stock…the angle of the drop from gun to butt is different in a hunting gun/skeet gun vs a Trap gun.

The choke needs to be modified or even more open on a skeet gun, full on a trap gun. If you find one with interchangeable chokes thats good but you may find a bargain on a fixed chock gun these days

Make sure the gun fits her.
