Second - any takers for Hali or Pouha? Those are two premier players in a 3-4; Pouah's among the best 3-4 NTs in the game (and was the difference maker in the conference championship last year with 2 sacks and a safety) and Hali is Hali.

I'm not completely sure which direction I want to go here, so I'll let the market dictate my direction. If I can get some good 4-3 players or picks to secure my own, I'll listen. Otherwise I may just make this a 2 year transition instead.

Which league?

My bad, DG - CD did that in his post and I wondered why he didn't include league or even team. Evidently I am equally careless.

You get a chance once per year to choose your base defensive front. So yes, you can change from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

That was tempting, and if I thought I was a strong contender this year I might have pulled the trigger. But I think I have too many holes in my line up to fill to grab a guy that probably has 3 or 4 years of top production left.

With apologies, I'd like to propose moving the draft back to Friday. We have several new owners coming on board and I want to give them time to prepare their draft boards. cdcox?

seconded

cdcox 05-12-2013 08:42 AM

I'll start it at noon EDT on Friday. If you set your draft board it shouldn't matter that it starts during working hours.

rageeumr 05-12-2013 09:14 AM

I was excited to get going today, but this will help me. I haven't had time to fully evaluate my roster. My initial run-through only led to cutting one guy, and I'm sure there has to be more dead weight than that.

Plus, it would be smart to know what positions I'm thin at before the draft.

patteeu 05-12-2013 12:40 PM

I was looking over my roster and while it doesn't have much pizazz, I think I've got some strengths at Offensive Guard and Fullback.

Looking further, I've got solid tackles too. If true fans really like good offensive lines, I'm going to make a mint on season ticket sales. :)

so how does the draft work? Do you pick from the city that you have?

DJ's left nut 05-12-2013 02:15 PM

I can't really adjust my draft board once I put guys in it - am I just stupid?

The draft board isn't really all that useful if you can't move guys up and down and set an order within the queue.

There are 24 teams in a league. We will be drafting from the 2012 draft class, 7 picks per team. Just like the NFL.

Have you registered yet? See the instructions in post 29 of the Sandbox thread in the lounge.

We're going to have something along the lines of a salary cap, but simpler and more elegant. It's not in place yet, but will come along after this season is played.

1. Try sandboxsimulations.com/index.php and then try the trade again.
2. If that doesn't help let me know a) your team, b) the team you are trying to trade with, and c) exactly where in the trade process that you are getting that error. I won't be able to dig into it until this evening.

Let me know how it works out.

Rain Man 05-13-2013 10:15 AM

Final call for the following teams. If you do not confirm your participation, your team is at risk of being reassigned:

League 1

Anchorage Roadkill - lostcause
Dallas K-Swiss Tubes - kstater
Fort Wayne Dukes - davidmu
Overland Park Chiefs - King of the Cassel
Ventura Highways - Rockchalk

League 2
Little Rock Nine - kstater
Oklahoma City Outlaws - jreid18
Pompano Beach Pandas - ozona
Rancho Cucamonga Redrage - dtforever
Seattle Undertakers - Andchiefs
Waco Compound Fires - sully

Some of these folks either had e-mail bounces or the don't accept pm's or we otherwise had trouble contacting them. So if you know any of these folks, send them here pronto or Ray Farmer may be talking to them.

Was it you and me that made a deal for Jason Pinkston some time back, with plans to implement it once the trading system was back up? I was thinking it was you, but can't find any documentation of it. If so, let's put it through to test whether your issue is with any trade or just with Portland.

I'm still trying to trade my extra pass rusher.

Let me know if interested.

Denver Broncos: Chris Clemons (11.5 sacks last year)

Well, I was able to offer a trade to each of you (I quickly rejected the trade I proposed). I'm going to log in as you for a moment (you'll be locked out) to see what happens when I try to trade with Portland. Again, I'll reject any trades I propose.

Just tried to offer a trade to a different team; it's locking me out before I get a chance to even select a team or anything. It's immediate as soon as I try to click on 'propose trade'.

I tried opening it in a different browser to no avail as well.

Duluth Pillagers here. What are you looking for and who's on your trading block?

We have available two good guards in Jon Asamoah (15 games) and Kory Lichtensteiger (16 games), a good MLB in Demeco Ryans (16 games), a part-time MLB in Ray Lewis (6 games), a starting QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick (16 games), a rising young TE in Rob Housler (15 games), and good receivers in Hakeem Nicks (13 games), Desean Jackson (11 games), and Harry Douglas (15 games).

Duluth is looking for long-term answers at CB, HB, and RT, and short-term answers (i.e., cheap) at C and DE.

Rain Man 05-14-2013 12:23 AM

A hint to all of the new players. Your players will be available for the same weeks in our league this season that they were in the NFL in 2012. So if you have a guy who had a season-ending knee injury in Week 5 in real life, he will have the same injury in our league. A guy who misses Weeks 2 and 13 with minor nicks will miss those same weeks in our league. When you look at your roster and click on a name, you can see how many weeks a guy played, even if you can't see exact weeks that he missed. It's nice to have all 16 weeks covered in each position, so keep this in mind.

You, my friend, have a deal. I hate to lose the pro bowler you want, but I'm not sure that Colt McCoy is going to get it done at QB this year.

To make the trade go through, you have to click the "approve trade" box yourself.

Any interest in Polumbus or Cherilus? 27 and 28 respectively; nice RTs protecting 2 excellent young QBs in RGIII and Luck. They both had very good years last year and appear entrenched for the foreseeable future. Long-term in the NFL is about 5 years and both of those guys have 5 years of good production left in them.

League 1 (I think?): Topeka Tyrannicide

Holy crap do I have a rebuild to see to. Only 28 total players on my roster that appeared in more than 10 games in 2012.

Still trying to decide on how to handle reworking the roster, but if anyone that could use Ed Reed (16 games) can make a good offer I'll listen.

Thought that might be a little rich.

Cherilus is presently slotted as my opening day LT. If I can get a trade I really like for him, I'll make it. If I had more depth, I could definitely see the logic in the deal, but I'm just going to be making yet another hole in my line that's probably harder to fill than the one I'm filling.

I'll pass on that one.

Khalif Barnes is available but spent some time dinged this year so you may not need him.

I think I have figured out how to improve both of my teams. I just need to figure out how to trade some of my WRs and OLBs from the Overland Park Chiefs in L1 for some of my offensive linemen and defensive backs from the Pomona Platypi in L2.

A couple more details about the draft.

1. It is worth reading Help->Draft. Seriously go read it now.

2. I don't remember the exact start-stop times but the people who go on the clock after a certain time don't have their clock expire until morning. Of course auto pick can keep things moving while you're asleep. All other aspects of the site are operational.

3. I'm going to turn on the email notification to let you know when you are on the clock. If you want to turn it off you can do so in Account Management -> email notification.

4. Always refresh the draft page and do one final check of your draft order before checking the autopick button.

A few questions just so I can clear some things up.
1: If a player on my roster did not play in 1 game the whole 2012 season, he is basically worthless correct? Better to drop that player?
2: If the daft autoselect is on, does it autopick by perceived need or best available?
3: How do we obtain free agents? Is there a waiver wire? Where can I find a list of available free agents?

So UDFA's are not draft eligible? Seems a little odd - shouldn't all rookies be in the draft pool?

If it wasn't endearing enough for my starting guard, Evan Mathis, to be rated #1 among guards by PFF (by a huge margin), he goes above and beyond the call of duty to win my heart here:

The 2012 draft is slightly different since it's retroactive, but it should contain any 2012 rookies who stuck on a roster and any who were drafted, regardless of whether they stuck on a roster.

In your scenario he is worthless in 2012, and it's your decision on whether to drop him or whether you think he's worth a roster spot because he might play in 2013.

It drafts the top player on your draft board. The draft autoselect does not pick who to draft, so you have to move names from the list on the left to the draft board in the middle. When they're in the middle, you can drag them up or down to get them in your preferred order.

We're going to have a bidding process for free agents. We haven't compiled the list yet, but it's anyone who played in 2012 who is not on a roster. (I guess that's the definition of a free agent, isn't it?)

Actually, I believe we agreed to only include rookies that were drafted in rounds 1-7 to maintain consistency with future rookie drafts. Normally our pool of draftable rookies will only be those drafted by NFL teams. UDFA will be available in free agent pools.

Oh. Okay. I express my sincere apologies for my misleading information.

Odd question since it's important this year. Does Josh Gordon (supplemental draft) go into the drafted rookies or the UDFA rookies?
