And while I think this has been mentioned already, I really do think the organization owes guys like Bowe, Charles, DJ, Flowers and Hali a run while they're still in/near their primes.
Giving up 2 more years to develop someone like Geno while using him as our primary starter is really telling Hali and DJ that we give zero ****s about winning with them and it tells Flowers that we look forward to trying to win a championship with him as our #2 corner in 2016 before replacing him in 2017. I like the idea of bringing in the best possible guy to win for the next 2 years (and that's unquestionably Alex, IMO) while also trying to get a high-end developmental QB in Bray. I would've loved to move back into the 2nd to grab Geno, but we didn't. Getting Smith and going forward with Bray as the 'new hotness' is my 2nd favorite option. At some point I have to excuse these guys for not doing exactly what I'd have done and acknowledge that I do like what they did do. Demanding that a regime do things exactly as you'd have done them is just unfair. The path they chose capitalizes on the primes of some excellent players while also giving us some nice options for the future. I can live with that. |

Yeah, he's a fumbling machine in the past. And he's done it already, which is a huge concern. But I can't believe he's nearly as risky as Moeaki in terms of being oft injured. And even if he is oft injured, he still possesses physical attributes that are very desirable for his position. Moekai doesn't. |

If you pick Barkley there, you likely still have the opportunity to draft Davis in the 6th instead of the FB who just got cut. |

Besides, the 4th round is where you take your HR swings. Value doesn't amaze me there, upside does. Knile Davis has huge upside. You don't kick the shit out of the SEC as a Soph by accident - this kid can play football. |

But I've observed the guy and am willing to change an opinion based on observation. From what I've seen, we got a nice lottery ticket in the 4th (because a 3rd round comp is a 4th to me). |

Bray's is obviously significantly lower than Geno's. But at a point I have to ask the guys that say "Elite or Bust!" why they give a shit about floors? Geno's much more likely to settle in as a decent QB than Bray. In fact, he sure looks like a guy that could turn into the next Alex Smith if he learns to read a whiteboard. But if we can skip the development curve and get a QB with similar or better upside in Bray - why not do that? We got Geno's much more desirable 'floor' covered by acquiring Alex and we got similar long-term upside, IMO by acquiring Bray. So from where I sit, this was a best of both worlds scenario. |
