Well dreams of the GronkNandez-style twin TE set were fun while they lasted, but Clearwater had a need and needs aren't cheap.

So the long-awaited Robert Quinn trade has finally been consummated: Clearwater sends Heath Miller and a 3rd in the 2014 draft to Austin for Robert Quinn, DE.

Now watch the Seahawks abandon the 'Robert Irvin: Sam Linebacker' experiment and just irritate the hell out of me.

cdcox 09-20-2013 10:48 PM

Sign your rookies! Sign your rookies!

Before the games on Sunday I will lock any unsigned rookies into a 4 year contract by default.

Free agency will also start on Sunday. Free agents that play on the Panthers, Chiefs and Seahawks will be available.

cdcox 09-20-2013 11:00 PM

Bump.

Free Agency

The Sandbox Offseason Free Agency system will work on two phases, as follows:

Phase 1. Sandbox Offseason Free Agency (September-December)

Phase 1 begins upon completion of the rookie draft and the signing of rookie players to contracts. Your bidding power will depend on how much money you have after signing your rookies.

NFL Weeks 1 through 16. Each week, the players currently on the opening-day roster of one or two NFL teams will be added to the free agent pool, as long as they are not on a current Sandbox roster. The teams are selected on a random basis.

Once added to the free agency pool, players will not be removed from the free agent list unless a Sandbox team wins the bid and claims them.

Once a player enters the free agent pool you may submit a bid on him if you have sufficient funds to do so. You may increase another team’s bid and vice versa. The player will be awarded to a team once a bid has been submitted and not raised for three days. If the player was previously under contract to another team, there will then be an additional 24 hours for that team to beat your bid and keep the player, if they choose to do so.

There are no roster limits during this phase. You do not have to maintain a 53-man roster.

At the end of the NFL season, we will have a roster cutdown phase to 53 players.

Phase 2. Sandbox Training Camp Free Agency (January)

We will then have a second phase of free agency where all unclaimed players will be available for bids. This pool will include the following categories of players:

1. Players already in the free agent pool for whom no bids were submitted during the Offseason Free Agency phase.
2. Players cut by teams to get to the 53-man roster.
3. Players who first appeared on an NFL team after opening day.

The same bidding and bid closing rules apply in this period. However, the 53-man rule applies. If you sign a player you have to cut a player to stay within the roster limit.

The order of entry for unclaimed players into the free agent pool for 2013 is as follows:

Week
1 Carolina Panthers
2 Seattle Seahawks
3 Kansas City Chiefs & San Francisco 49ers
4 Pittsburgh Steelers & Philadelphia Eagles
5 St. Louis Rams & New York Giants
6 New England Patriots & Minnesota Vikings
7 Atlanta Falcons & San Diego Chargers
8 Cincinnati Bengals & Houston Texans
9 Detroit Lions & Dallas Cowboys
10 New Orleans Saints & Baltimore Ravens
11 Miami Dolphins & Jacksonville Jaguars
12 New York Jets & Chicago Bears
13 Cleveland Browns & Green Bay Packers
14 Washington Redskins & Indianapolis Colts
15 Buffalo Bills & Arizona Cardinals
16 Denver Broncos & Tampa Bay Buccaneers
17 Tennessee Titans & Oakland Raiders

Are there people wanting to take teams over? I'm having trouble finding the time (and, frankly, the motivation) to keep up with my team.

Sadness. Let me know if you need to drop, and I'll take over the team until a new owner comes in.

Nah, I'll keep going until there's an interested replacement.

cdcox 09-23-2013 10:27 PM

Update: I'm getting closer. You can see the ***OFFICIAL*** list of FA on the FA auction page. Scroll down the page to the second table. All free agents are listed there. You can sort columns and there is a search box to the far right. This will allow you to start your FA planning.

I still need to add the functionality that will allow a current owning team (I need to add that to the bid table) to retain a player by upping the bid. I might be able to finish that tomorrow night. No promises.

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-26-2013 12:37 PM

rainman, please find a new owner for the Dallas team. I've checked this thread like 2 times in the last month.. Honestly, I'm scared that i'm just gonna forget and neglect the team (which isn't fair to the rest of the owners).

DJ's left nut 09-30-2013 02:42 PM

FA isn't quite working yet, is it?

Rain Man 10-08-2013 10:37 AM

Almost there, everyone. Management apologizes for the delay.

cdcox 10-13-2013 10:17 PM

I'm very close to having free agency up and running. There are still a few bugs I am trying to track down. Hopefully I will get those shaken out Monday night.

cdcox 10-14-2013 11:26 PM

Free agency is up.

In week 7 you can bid on juicy free agents from the Chiefs, Seahawks, and Panthers.

Schweet.

Rain Man 10-15-2013 01:18 PM

This may be a reloading year in Duluth. Our offense is looking decent, but our defense is not going to get us into the playoffs.

1. Philip Rivers is having a great year, and I've got skill position players even if I'm not deep. So I've got that going for me.
2. My oline is kind of beat up.
3. My cornerbacks are a mess. I can't keep anybody on the field.
4. Right now, my defense is a big blob of blah.

TambaBerry 10-15-2013 01:27 PM

No Cooper?

Mind if I ask the rule that he falls under? I have to assume there is one. Seems odd that Moses would be listed as a Chief and Cooper isn't. I know Moses isn't a rookie whereas Cooper is, but it seems an odd distinction.

It is a quirk from our data provider. They didn't have him listed on a week 1 roster. I'm pretty sure he was on the Chiefs roster, but as a matter of policy to keep labor manageable we aren't going to hand curate that data.

cdcox 10-21-2013 10:46 PM

Good New and Bad News for League 1:

Good News:

1. A new batch of free agents are available! Week 8 free agents are now open for bidding. You can continue to bid on week 7 free agents as well.

2. New feature! You can put a check mark next to the free agents you are potentially interested in. This will be stored so you don't have to keep combing over the same list of guards, trying to remember which ones are worth bidding on. And, by checking the box "Hide unchecked free agents?" the unchecked free agents will disappear from your view. If you want to see them again, just uncheck the hide box.

Bad News.

I'm really sorry about this. In the process of trouble shooting the installation of the new code on our production site, I accidentally ran the code that resets the free agent list. So at the moment there are no active bids in free agency. I think players that were awarded won't show up in the free agent list again. Any players that have active bids were set to zero, and the bidding process will have to start over again.

IMPORTANT: If you were high bidder on a player post the player and the amount here, to the best of your recollection. Once the list stabilizes I will try to refund those salary points to the high bidder. We're on the honor system here. Hopefully someone can confirm most of what people post.

So sorry about this.

DJ's left nut 10-22-2013 08:59 AM

Players that were already won have stayed won (so I get to keep my spoils from the bloody bidding war over Ben Hartsock).

I made 3 $1 bids yesterday and that's all I can recall. I'm pretty sure I should be back at $75.

AustinChief 10-22-2013 01:43 PM

Last I checked I was high bidder on Anthony Sherman and DeAngelo Williams but not sure the amounts and also not sure that someone didn't overbid me, I last bid on Sunday. If I had to guess it was something like 16 for Sherman and 36 for Williams but that is a complete guess.

TambaBerry 10-22-2013 10:17 PM

So the free agents that were on our team last season. When the bid ends do we get a chance to sign them for more or do we have to bid on them?

You get a chance to retain them by bidding enough to get them to the next year of contract (or 10% more if it's a seven-year contract).

Yeah, you get 24 hours to match if I remember right.

If you have e-mail notifications on, I think you'll get an e-mail, but it's best to keep checking the site.

SPchief 10-23-2013 02:18 PM

I'm not getting E-mail notification when I get outbidded on a player. I go to the email notification screen to check if I have them turned on (It worked for the draft) and get an error message.

I have no problem with this process restarting on these players but I currently have zero bids outstanding but the money I had in those bids is now gone.

I think you should seriously consider suspending the process until this gets resolved for everyone.

I fixed the error message, but the change email notification worked even with the error message.

Right now you only get an email when a winning bid is registered on one of the free agents on your own roster. At that point you get 24 hours to beat it.

We'll probably add other email notifications, such as when you were outbid, over time.

rtmike 10-26-2013 04:32 PM

It was my understanding we had to have our rosters down to 53 & the rookies signed before free agency, correct?

I messed up. It looks like I could have kept those players with expiring contracts since I had the ability to outbid others' to keep their services, correct?

That sounds cheaper than having to extend someone you're not positive about for at least 5 years.

Well that takes care of that then. Easy enough.

Everything else on the system looks great.. except of course certain parts of my roster which I think is a local ID-10-T error.

rtmike 10-26-2013 09:54 PM

I guess I missed the 53 part. I would have done things way different. I couldn't figure out why my team name was never listed on the right.

I did not want to give a 5 yr. extension to one of my guy's but didn't want to lose him either.
This changes everything.

Hammock Parties 11-02-2013 03:45 PM

Sorely needed infusion at CB for the Broncos.

Cotchery should help out at WR with Roddy White having the worst season ever.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't get a chance to match the offer on Garrett Reynolds.

No, thank you for pointing out the problem. There was a counter offer in the table in league 2 on the same player that was blocking your counter offer. That could have gone undetected for quite a while.

Nice deal on Reynolds.

It's a tough question when he's 33 years old. I wanted him a lot, but couldn't justify a 5-year contract for him once the bidding escalated.

At the minimum I've saved my 2013 Sandbox Season, assuming Keenum maintains his current level of play through the end of the year. I was also worried that this might be the end of Schaub, which would leave me without a QB. If Keenum pans out long term, I got a steal. Overall less risk than taking a QB in round 1. Worth the risk from my point of view.
