Yeah but it doesn't always work that way. See Travis Kelce. Or Eric Fisher.

If Ford has another 10-sack season the Chiefs aren't gonna sign him to a cheap one year deal and risk letting him hit UFA the next offseason. He'll get bank.

He's cheap the next 2 years and then can be franchised if need be after that.

If Dorsey can extend him for a bargain this offseason, he might be smart to do so

Doubt it. As soon as he gets 7 or 8 sacks next season the Chiefs will offer him big money.

Our cap is going to be tight going forward.

Drafting young players worthy of nice contracts to fill your cap up is a great thing.

Now let's keep doing it with a QB

Giants GM out looking for a CB and signs Antwon "Valentino" Blake, formerly of the Titans.

Perennially one of the NFL's most-burnt corners, Blake keeps getting chances for reasons unbeknownst.
Ideally for the G-Men, he won't make the final 53... Riiight!

Saints re-signed CB Sterling Moore to a one-year contract.

Dolphins signed LB Kiko Alonso to a four-year, $28.8 million contract.

Saints signed LB Manti Te'o, formerly of the Chargers, to a two-year contract.

Colts signed WR Kamar Aiken, formerly of the Ravens, to a one-year contract.

Jets signed QB Josh McCown, formerly of the Browns, to a one-year, $6-million contract.

The Seahawks will host free agent linebacker Gerald Hodges on Wednesday, tweets Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Seattle, of course, already employs two of the league’s best linebackers in Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, but the club does need to replace the production void left by Mike Morgan, who remains unsigned at present. Hodges, 26, could fill that role after playing for the division rival 49ers for the past season-plus.

Hodges started 12 games in 2016, playing on roughly half of San Francisco’s defensive snaps while grading as the NFL’s No. 21 linebacker, per Pro Football Focus. In 15 total games, Hodges racked up 80 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions. He also chipped in on special teams (73 snaps).

Although he ranks as PFR’s third-best free agent linebacker, Hodges hasn’t generated much interest since the market opened. His only known visit came with the Chiefs earlier this month, but the two sides couldn’t agree to a pact.

Colts released DT Arthur Jones.

Redskins signed WR Brian Quick, formerly of the Rams, to a one-year contract.

Panthers signed RB Jonathan Stewart to a one-year extension through 2018.

Packers signed DL Ricky Jean-Francois to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Jets signed WR Quinton Patton, formerly of the 49ers.

In search of a power running back, the New England Patriots will explore the possibility of adding free agent Adrian Peterson when they host him on a visit Monday, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.

He fumbles. He cannot block. Not worth 17 million. Injured. Just not a fan of the guy.

When healthy he is the best back. And he's arguably top 3 all time

April 3rd

Redskins agreed to terms with ILB Zach Brown, formerly of the Bills, on a one-year contract.

Giants third-year DE Owa Odighizuwa indicated on Twitter that he intends to step away from the game.

April 4th

Cowboys released/retired QB Tony Romo joins CBS lead analyst job.

I'd have loved to have gotten Timmy Jernigan.

Looks like he's not getting the offers that he was hoping for. I bet that he ends up taking a 1 year deal somewhere, like Poe did, and tries to improve his value. I would like to see him come to KC, even if it is just a 1 year deal. It buys us time to find the long term answer at ILB.

I'd rather have him than Maualuga. That guy runs like he's carrying a piano.

Agreed.

The more tape I watch of the incoming ILB class, the less I like. Reuben Foster is the only sure thing, and virtually unattainable sitting at #27.

Guys like Cunningham, Davis, McMillan, Walker, Riley, etc. all have limitations to the degree that you question their ability to play 3 downs let alone start. Weaker class than I thought....

The Franchise 04-06-2017 09:56 AM

I think we'll sign either Hodges or Maualuga after the draft (if we don't draft one in the first two days).

Honestly if Reddick, Davis, Cunningham and McMillan are all gone by our 2nd rd pick, I would go the route you mentioned.

None of the later guys in the draft appeal to me

For a guy that's supposedly as good as Hodges is supposed to be, it's weird he hasn't signed to anyone yet. It's not like teams are going to have more money after the draft to sign him to.

I don't think it matters much where we draft one. More so who we are able to draft.

This isn't a very talented ILB draft, IMO. If the value is never there, they likely won't reach and have these 2 as plan b.

Mr. Laz 04-07-2017 02:08 PM

Hodges must be hoping that some team doesn't have much choice but to overpay him after the draft.

any new things going on? When is the second/final deadline?

Buckweath 05-14-2018 04:11 PM

I don't know if you guys have seen it but it seems like a vast majority of (fantasy) analysts are not high on Sammy Watkins going into next season. I have seen him ranked no higher than low 20s for WRs and many listing him in their low 30s, 40s and I have even seen in the 50s.

And then I see that he finished 32nd last season in what seemed like a terrible year for him, granted he had quite a few TDs.

I feel like it is not out of question that he could surpass Hill this season. I am surprised to see analysts are not high on him. It might be because there is so many mouths to feed to and he will be the no.2 WR but still..

Kiimo 05-14-2018 04:25 PM

Oft-injured, never been seen playing with a great QB(obviously jury is out on PMIII, but he definitely can be better than Goff), #2 WR. Low 20's to low 30's seems like a fair ranking, IMO.
