Watched the first 2.5 episodes, thought it was boring and predictable.
Checked Wikipedia and yep, as expected. The performances were excellent but once again, the story was blah. Happy for those who enjoyed it. |
The performances were great. They were enough to make it very enjoyable. It's not as good as The Getdown because of the story, but still very fun.

Hopper, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas . . . all so good. |

I watched SoA as a guilty pleasure for several seasons but it got too emo and too soap opera-y for me. And the dialogue was just horrible. There were some really enjoyable characters though and some really fun performances. |

On episode 5. Loving it so far and the acting is really good.

The wife and I just finished this last night. Awesome but short.

She's a homeschooled british kid who enoys lo-fi records and training MMA. She is very strange, like a rare gem. |
Lots of people dressing up as 11 this year.
Also saw an incredible Demagorgon costume on the 'net. I'll see if I can find it. |

Sean Astin will play Bob Newby, a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour). Bob is now the manager of the Hawkins RadioShack.

Is this show any good.

I'll just say it...Winona Rider sucks. Her acting is so awful in this series.
Wish they cast someone else for that role |

Huh, I'd read it was going to be based on a different cast, kinda like Fargo or True Detective. Oh well, I'll watch.
BTW - I wonder what the licensing costs were to use the Thriller/Vincent Price intro for this. They could have gone with this instead, (probably cheaper): <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/B_7Ot4TBb1U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Maybe it was too religious, but it's still very fitting for the era. |
****ing YES! Can't wait!!!!!

Awesome analysis of the first season

Note: I looked up a lot of history on the Mongols, which I love to do because it makes it interactive for me. But some stuff near the end, even without checking the history, was just too much. Oh, and this was one those I binged-watched on Netflix 'cuz I was bored. |
Last fall, my SO got me to watch this. It as good, but I am not going to continue with it.
Can't do horror. I get nightmares and it would just be watching too many TV series. |
Stranger Things is racist, suburbia glorifying, MAGA propaganda

Who will watch every episode in the first day or two and who will spread it out over a week or two?
I will try to plan to spread it out a bit just to prolong the experience and process the episodes. |

It's up

Halfway through. Really good so far. Couple off moments, but otherwise just feels like a natural extension of season one.
|
I'm probably going to start in on this at some point this weekend. Looking forward to it. Love the way they do this show.

SO wants to continue this series. I don't. Guess, I'm gonna give in though. If I scream in the middle of the night, then it's on him.
|
Fantastic second half of the season. Eps 8 and 9 are the best of the series to date. They just nail it.
|
The soundtrack, graphics and the period music is really great in this series. The kids are all believable too and well casted...that's no easy task. Director is obviously a Kubrick fan...kid running in the school hallway was straight out of the Shining.
I hated Modine's acting/character in the first season...it was really distracting/forced...about the only thing I didn't like. Paul Reiser's role as a doctor is much more natural... |
Just finished it. Really enjoyed it. The side track to Chicago seemed kind of pointless unless they are using it to set up something for season 3.
|
After finishing season 2..
Spoiler!
|
I thought the first few episodes were boring. So did my SO who fell asleep.

I really liked season two. I can’t tell if the end was a set up for season 3 or if it was just kind of a “Stranger Things” ending. Season one was clearly set up for season two in several ways... this one for the most part just ended it.
|
"sorry, but you ate my cat."
My wife and I couldn't stop laughing at this line. |
God damn this is a good show.
|
Episode 8 and 9 were awesome.

Season 1 set the stage and season 2 was a fantastic conclusion.
If they stopped here, it's a win. |

Already renewed
Spoiler!

The teenagers are the biggest drag to this show, even in the first season they're virtually completely useless (the entire narrative was to build up to them fighting the monster.. only for it to just run away at the end so that it can have a real fight with Eleven which makes the teenager's fight inconsequential at the end) and in this season it feels like they're getting even more screen time. Steve is their only saving grace, but even then that character is only really fun/useful when he's with the kids, outside of the stupid teenager drama subplot which proves my point.
I can sort of appreciate the less focus on Mike and Eleven but did we really need more useless/annoying Nancy? The whole scene where they go to the conspiracy nut and he literally gets underage teenagers drunk and then proceeds to encourage them to have sex in his den was pretty cringe worthy by itself, but add on the fact that no one should actually care about Nancy or Jonathan (especially when Nancy is kind of a horrible person).. ugh. EDIT: also appreciated the Grant Morrison reference in Episode 7 |
Okay, it was better tonight.
|
I thought the conspiracy nut/writer guy was pretty good actually. "How was the pullout?" lol

I would guess it will focus on the missing members of the MK Ultra project...numbers 0-11 with at least one of them being corrupted and sold out...kind of like Orphan Black. Super power vs super power.... |
I walked out on it last night. Too scary. JHC!!!!
I had to ask my SO how it ended in parts. Maybe now I can watch it with my eyes opened throughout instead of on and off. |
Just finished the season. It's just a flat-out damn good show. I enjoyed the entire season immensely.
|
Outside of episode 7, which was laughably bad, I thought season 2 was fantastic.
