These trips can be booked for as little as $650 per person IIRC. I just threw out 2k per person because I said screw it, it's only money and I'll make more tomorrow. I just want a great time with the love of my life.

Also, I work a lot and it is hard for me to get away for more than one or two consecutive weekdays. So I'd rather take a three day trip than a longer trip.

Part of the excitement is the unknown and possibly introducing you to areas or things that you never thought about exploring before. I have no doubt that proper planning could have got us trip that would likely be a better value than what we'll get. I wasn't looking for value; I was looking for something new and different. As I said earlier, hopefully that new and different doesn't include my organs being harvested :-)

I have no idea if I'll feel like I got a raw deal or not. I fully admit I'm nervous but you only live once I guess.

That would be my biggest concern, but I guess psychologically it might help that you're not planning it and looking for deals, or that you even know the cost of the flights and hotel, etc; unless you looked them up... and even though you know the cost of a meal, you'll be trying to spend the gift card instead of thinking about saving the difference between that 12oz and 16oz steak.

I went on a cruise a few years ago and did quite a bit of planning for the excursions, because there was no way in hell I was adding on $250/excursion when I could do it myself for like $50.... but, had it been wrapped up in the price of the cruise without any visibility to what you're paying for, I would have just gone and enjoyed them.

And it's still $4k, of course, but it's your hard earned money.

You people focused on the price of this are missing the point.

I would not like the idea of not knowing what I am getting for my money nor where I am going for that money.
Being spontaneous and surprised it all well and good, but $4k is a little much for those memories.
I would not want to have any possible regrets if I am spending that kind of change.

I think you did a good thing, and look forward to hearing about it.

Survey response...
We like mixing cheeses into a snot-like substance and then putting it on pizza. Sitting in traffic is the perfect opportunity to bash Chicago. We've never been stabbed, but we're a little curious.

Holy shit the fact that St. Louis is in any way a possibility should be a red flag. Hell send me two grand and I’ll plan you a great St. Louis free trip that you and your wife will be happy with.

It's about surprise and convenience. You pay and tell the dates you want and you fill out a short preference survey. That's it. The nice thing in my wife's case is that they coordinated all of the arrangements for all 3 ladies in different cities to arrive at the same time.

Surprise? If you have a spouse, take turns surprising each other.

This is what convenience gets you. I'll pass.

Fergusonistan was a destination eh? I'd rather camp at the local rest area at 500 bucks a night.

Why Not? 04-22-2018 08:00 PM

It seems like you're really into it so I'm sure it will be cool. Personally, I'm a "pick a place we want to go and go there" type of fella

mikeyis4dcats. 04-22-2018 08:23 PM

Insanely overpriced, is you are aware of that. I read an article once that the troops are generally called at 35 to 60 percent of the cost. that's a lot of money for a surprise domestic destination.

Indian Chief 04-22-2018 08:25 PM

First of all, I hope you have a great time and please let us know how it was when you get back.

Having said that, the "stress" of planning a trip, for me at least, is trying to do everything I want to do and save money doing it. My next comment is about this service, not IA Chiefs fan. If I was going to throw money at a trip, there is no stress or trouble planning. Forget $4k as a budget for a 3 day trip. Let's say your budget is $600/person and $1200 total. That's still an easy to plan and fun 3 day trip.

IA_Chiefs_fan 04-22-2018 08:26 PM

Not sure that I'm really into it but I'm happy we decided to try it at least once. Got nothing to lose other than a little money and I can bust ass and make more of that tomorrow.
