You want good value without fillers, surprisingly Aldi's store brand is pretty tight.

And they've started producing a cheaper Ben&Jerry's alternative in pints.

I like the tip, but it's probably not viable to do a 16 hour round trip for Aldi's. I used to get Breyer's Ice Cream and our local grocery brand (which had a killer moose tracks), but in the past year my digestive system has rebelled against them. My wife is on a natural foods kick and she says it's because those are "not natural ice cream". Whether that's the reason or not, I need a new ice cream raison de vivre. I may have to go to the more expensive Ben and Jerry's stuff to try it out, trading quantity for quality.

I was serious earlier about Haagen Dazs 5.

See if they have a flavor that hits your fancy.

If nothing else, you know what you're getting.

Zarda had one of the best banana splits I ever had. I dont recall them being a National chain. Its was a Dairy in Shawnee Ks. who latter branched out to milk stored and started selling their soft and hard served ice cream.

Back in the olden days, the Grandview Zarda was THE place for ice cream. We probably stopped there twice a week when I was a tyke. Mom would get milk, and everyone would get a cone.

Cherry Nut FTMFW!!

I started on State in Wyandotte and when the manager transferred to the main store on 63rd I went with him. I was a stockboy but also worked the gas station as well for one summer.

Ha! Once again, back in the olden days, my grandparents lived in Tonganoxie. Back then the Zarda's on State was still their closest option for ice cream while out and about, particularly as, until they retired to Tongie, they lived over by Washington HS, and that's where their friends still were.

So I had many a cone from there as well.

Dari B. Been around since 1954 so they must be doing something right. Sometimes the staff can be prone to ****wittery though.

Thanks, guys. Went with Clay's very first suggestion of Betty Rae's.

We also listened to Mikey and got a scoop of the burnt ends ice cream.

Great suggestions, guys. My wife's side of the family are ice cream addicts, so I'm sure her and her sister will drag me to another one of these places before we leave.
