Alex Smith didn't make any reads during that play that resulted in a TD to Hill. He made a read before the play and knew he was throwing it to Hill.

Tigger is right.

Just look at the Playoff game- Alex read the Pitt defense like a book. He knew EXACTLY when to fake a throw to an open receiver. This bought him enough time for the sideline to open up so he could run safely to it and get out of bounds.
