We have no backup NT on the roster now. At least no serious option.

His injury better be still serious, because this one hurts, cap savings be damned. We could have cut Bailey, saved cap dollars, and been better off

IIRC, they rarely have a guy playing a true 0 tech anymore, so maybe they're looking to move away from that.

Looks like releasing him a few weeks ago would have saved more money. Weird.

Probably hoped he'd take a paycut and they had to let him go when he wouldn't

It would have had to have been a straight pay cut, he was on a 1 year deal.

Wow. That was a fall from grace.

Our run D is about to bottom out.

Couldn't get any worse.

I don't think RNR, Jenkins, or Reyes (if we sign him) can even do that, though. None of them are even over 300 lbs.

That's fine in a lot of the packages and concepts we run, but over the course of several games?

pugsnotdrugs19 04-22-2017 12:39 PM

The Kendall Reyes visit makes more sense now. Perhaps they are looking to bring him back on the vet minimum to replace Howard as depth.

Any takes that suggest this move is catastrophic are ignorant. You've got a starting DL in Jones-Logan-Bailey, and the base package isn't even on the field very often.

Jaye Howard released

The move comes as a bit of surprise, considering Chiefs coach Andy Reid just gave an update on Howard on Monday, saying he’s doing fine after recent hip surgery.

“He’s actually been rehabbing in Orlando with the surgeon that did his work there, and he’s doing well,” Reid said.

Howard, 28, was limited to eight games in 2016 due to a hip injury that landed him on injured reserve midway through the season. He recorded 23 tackles and a sack and started four games.

His best season as a Chief came in 2015, when he played in 16 games – starting 13 – and recorded 36 tackles and 5 1/2 sacks. Howard signed a two-year, $12 million deal before last season.

I forgot about Logan. Looks like he's the replacement for Howard.

Maybe I'm off, but I'm also of the opinion that the run D was so shitty due to the awful ILB play we had going last year, not as much the DL.

O.city 04-22-2017 12:44 PM

2.5 mil of his deal became guaranteed on April 1st. Why not release him earlier?

EDIT: Paylor saying if another team signs him before draft, Chiefs are off hook for the $

ToxSocks 04-22-2017 12:46 PM

Has to be either injury or off the field related. This move doesn't make any sense on the surface.

And i strongly doubt this means anything regarding the draft.

lewdog 04-22-2017 12:48 PM

Looking like Ryan Sims 2.0 will be the Chiefs draft pick this year.

Exciting stuff.

Nacho is terrible against the run and Chris Jones is merely OK.

They're going to need a big step forward from CJ, Bailey to return to form and Logan to live up to his contract, not to mention whoever starts at ILB proving themselves.

Lotta ifs.

Well hey at least they aren't blowing picks on skill positions to prop up ASS11.
