It's so much worse than that.

The could have bought Netflix for around 50 million and Blockbuster laughed Hastings out of the room. On top of that they had evidence that their business model was going down the tubes as early as 1997. Flash forward to 2004 and to compete with Netflix's mail service they were going to have to cut all late fees 200 million, and invest in digital infrastructure to stream which was going to cost another 200 million...and that's when Carl Ichan stepped in and utterly ruined the company.

There was almost something magical about going and finding the video or game you knew for sure would not be there.

Or seeing that they are all sold out of what you want on the shelf, but checking the returns and finding it.

Without late fees, no movies would ever have been available for rental. If you don't want late fees, then return the video on time.

Anyone remember Video Library? Late fees were on another level there.

Hell yeah Video Library in Lenexa was the best. They had everything. That was a great place to rent obscure, hard to find movies. Rental fees were high but you put up with it because their selection was so great.

Don't forget the rewind fee!

And those damn credit card companies charging interest. Bastards.

A LOT shitty movies with cool covers/spines were rented at Block Buster and Video Zone by me in high school.

There was a Blockbuster next door to Little Caesar's in college. We would order a deep dish pizza at Little Caesar's, wait till its ready at Blockbuster and normally buy a bunch of the candy and other junk they had.

I remember when women would put on their dating profiles that sometimes they like to stay home and make it a blockbuster night now they say they like to Netflix and chill. When you see milestones like that you realize you’ve been ****ing random strangers on the internet for quite a while.

During law school, the Blockbuster was right next to Racanellis with the best pizza around, and both were a very pleasant walk down The Loop from my front door.

Two slices of Italian Beef or Veggie Special and two new releases was a great way to unwind on a quiet Saturday night.

Ironically, although the Blockbuster is long gone, the Racanellis relocated to almost right outside my former front door on The Loop.

If I still lived there, I'd probably push 3 bills. :D
