It sure would have been nice had they simply tried having the car you qualify with, as it was, being what you start the race with. So, no changes in setup, no new tires, no more fuel, just park the car and race it the way you crossed the start/finish line with at the end of your qualifying run. THAT would have brought-in some interesting strategy.
Oh, and are the 5 points for the pole (if you can get it from the others who need those same five points) worth starting the race low on fuel and a setup that won't translate well into the draft?? IDK, but it would be interesting... Well, more interesting than this bullshit... |
Maybe they should qualify at night with no lights.
I agree with what Kurt Busch said, Daytona qualifying is the single most prestigious thing for the crews and guys that build the cars. Go back to the old format. Especially for what GloryDayz said, 30 laps into the actual race it won't matter where you qualified. |
OK, it's dumb as all get out, but since Jeff won it I guess I'm a little less un-OK with it...
LOL, I'm a total homer! |

Enjoyed the changes last year, up to and including the knock out qualifying, except it was horrible at the super speedways...it's ridiculous.
As with the race next week, maybe for each super speedway race, they could just borrow the PowerBall Lottery's machine and fill it with 43 ping pong balls representing the drivers and then turn it on. First one to pop out is the winner/pole sitter. Seems about the same amount of skill as what happens most of the time anyway and I say this as a Gordon fan. I figure this will be my last year of following Nascar closely. |
