Sounds like Steckel is going to coach Missouri State. Going to take a big pay cut in order to be the top dog, I guess.

That would suck

TomBarndtsTwin 12-13-2014 02:38 PM

Mizzou will be fine w/o Steck.

Our D-Line coach is the one we can't afford to lose.

TribalElder 12-13-2014 02:39 PM

Hope so

It'll be fine. Mizzou will either promote from within, or there's been some talk that if Steck leaves they may try and bring back Barry Odom from Memphis to be the D-Coord.

We shall see . . . . .

Interesting it was Steckel we got. I figured it would be Andy Hill.

Pitt Gorilla 12-13-2014 03:09 PM

WHy not promote kul?

duncan_idaho 12-13-2014 03:19 PM

My guess: Promote Kuligiowski to asst. DC and bring Odom back to be asst. DC and LB coach.

Odom has been really impressive at Memphis.

This would be ideal.

So what's the lowdown on Steckel? What was his main recruiting area? Personality? Any ideas who he might hire as staff?

He didn't recruit much (Pinkel's coordinators usually don't do a lot of recruiting), but he worked connections in Texas and the Rust Belt.

I doubt he takes anyone from Pinkel's staff, unless Cornell Ford can be convinced to come down there to be the defensive coordinator or something.

Imagine he might pull someone from Dave Christensen's staff at Wyoming, though I'm not sure where those guys were.

This also might be an opportunity for some of the GAs/etc. to get real jobs. I could see Nick Oetterbacher working as Stec's OL coach, or Dan Hopkins (who has been a GA for years and actually was in the J-School with me) getting a LB/DL coach job.

Missouri state should have went the UAB route.

Title IX ****s that school so hard they can't compete in any sport.
