So here's a dental story for you guys today.

Had a new patient yesterday, 9 years old, fell over the handlebars of his bike and smashed his mouth.

Luckily he just chipped some teeth and maybe cracked one, but it looks like it will be ok. But unlucky for him, those same teeth went thru his upper lip. Like all the way thru. ER doc said "go to the dentist and let him fix it".

So I spent yesterday morning sowing up a lip of a 9 year old who was already freaked the **** out. Fun. Lots of screams

Since when is sewing up a lip dental surgery?

Sounds like the ER doc was an ass.

They don't like to mess with anything in or around the mouth. It's in the little piddly rural ER in my rural practice town so i'm guessing he had bigger fish to fry at the time.

It's no problem in terms of me doing it. It's not preferable and I went ahead and referred him on to a plastic surgeon just in case he needs something later but it was pretty small so I don't think it will be a problem.

Kid was pretty freaked out though. My assistant enjoyed it more than I did.

Sounds like you should be the ER dentist

It's very rare that I have to or want to do anything like that. The patient is a kid of a good family of patients in the practice so I helped them out a bit.

I'm more of a drill and fill kind of guy. I don't like the crazy shit.

Probably. Given where you live, he probably was dealing with an amputation by manure spreader and two meth overdoses. :D

Can you temporarily sew his tongue to the roof of his mouth first to quiet him down?

I'm not a medical professional.

gum therapy toothpaste is good stuff IMHO

Considered a Water Pic with a solution of hydrogen peroxide or other stuff like
TheraSol irrigate?

Well doc, opinion?

I'm sure soft drinks are bad for your teeth, but to compare it to meth is stupid.

How long does a human tooth last in a cup of soda?

24 hours?

Had a great one today. Patient called to cancel her appointment for a cleaning today, stating that her cat attacked her while she slept and now she will be unable to lay her head down due to the damage to the back of her head. LOL. I want to see some cat cam footage of this event.

Yeah, note to self: Bobcats don't make good house pets.
