Yes.

Not trying to change the question. I used 15-day DL because that's what he would hit if he had a an injury that would cause him to miss fewer than 20 games.

I just think assuming Cain is a piece of glass player because he had a leg injury that lingered (pretty common in baseball and football - hamstring injuries take a long time to heal completely, you never know until you test it how healthy it is, etc) is silly.

I mean, is Matt Kemp an injury risk now, because he had a leg-related injury in 2012 that he re-aggravated by not being 100 percent healthy when he tested it in game action the first time?

I hope you're right, but I worry about him being another DDJ. Also, he could miss 20 games with various injuries without ever going on the DL.

Why?

DeJesus' minor league history shows a much less durable player than Cain.

He missed all of the 2001 season with injury.

In 2002, he played in just 112 games over two full-season levels (missing about 30 games)

In 2003, he played in just 76 games before being called up to the majors and getting very little playing time.

DeJesus missed time with injuries almost every year he was in the major leagues. This mirrored his performance in the minors. Three minor leagues season, three seasons with major losses of PT to injury.

Fragile guys that play CF would typically be hurt EVERY year and miss decent chunks of time every year.

Are you really asking why a Royals fan is looking at worst case scenarios?

Oh, if you're just being a pessimist, I get it (see my initial reaction post after the trade, Nightfyre's post a page or two back).

Take heart: There's no real evidence to suggest Cain is injury-prone. Especially compared to the oft-injured DeJesus, who displayed a tendency to get hurt from early on.

Can we sell the farm for Trumbo? Please?

Our lineup would be sick.

Like the deranged, pathetic ****ing junkie that I am, I'm ready for the season to start.

Nightfyre 12-14-2012 08:30 PM

Same.

So Detroit had something like a 125M payroll or something. They can afford to sign Prince Fielder and Annibal Sanchez in successive years. Why? Where is the money coming from? Detroit is a big market? How are they affording these payrolls? They will be at 140M before you know it.
