...I am a bit biased though as I live within a couple of miles of it. :)

honestly, that is one of my favorites and I'm about 30 minutes or so away.

I'll go there over Gates any day. (and I'm about 5 minutes from Gates)

Has anyone tried The Rub barbecue in Olathe? They are close by where I work and opened a few months ago. I've eaten there twice and they put out some quality Q.

A lot of folks at my work talk it up, but most of them consider a crock pot full of lil smokies drowning in KC Masterpiece acceptable food day fare.

Plus, there's this.

There is a new BBQ place that has entered into the KC market. Jon Russels BBQ. He has won the American Royal BBQ contest several times and decided to open his own restaurant. He's a buddy of Cosmic Pal. At last weeks game in tampa we had him ship us some BBQ for the tailgate.

The brisket was the best I've ever had anywhere. The sausage was right up there too. And remember we had our tailgate two days after it was shipped to us. It's a good assumption that its even better fresh.

Just a heads up to the KC BBQ fans.

Food on the website looks good. Will have to check it out the next time me and the mrs. have a chance to have lunch by ourselves.

"Hand-crafted micro smokehouse", that's kind of funny, but I'll definitely give it a try.

I've always said JackStack has the best brisket in the BBQ universe. Jon Russells is better and I had it in Tampa. Thats as good as BBQ gets around these parts.

Yeah, zip code doesn't mean you have the right to say your stuff is best. It might mean your area has a high density of something good, but not always the best. But BBQ is subjective, so it's all the more difficult to judge. I think the best BBQ is at my house, but I do it the way I like it (and the family too), but I think I'm giving myself home field advantage! Well, at least my neighbors agree... i think it's because, like today, I got to spend all day slaving over four racks of ribs. They ought to have been good! But not perfect. Breakng in a new grill, and I'm trying to learn/perfect my grill version of ribs (instead of a smoker). Fun, good, but not right yet either... The neighbors were split, some thought they were better than ever, some said different, but just as good, another said keep trying, he'll keep judging... Not sure what the latter really means!

As DaKCMan and BRC both mentioned- Jon Russell's BBQ turned out to be some really magnificent BBQ.

I'm not a sausage fan, but the sausage from Jon Russell's was absolutely the most delicious sausage I've ever had in my lifetime. And I certainly wasn't alone. Other fans were drooling over that sausage and word got around the tailgate pretty quick.

The brisket, which I expected to be dry since it was airlifted in two days prior, was still juicy and mouthwatering. Excellent brisket which also garnered rave reviews from some of the folks at the tailgate.

The ribs were very good too. I honestly don't think the ribs survived the trip like the brisket and the sausage did.

When I thanked my friend, Russ, he seemed disappointed that the ribs didn't fare as well. He is very proud of his ribs and it is his ribs that has been winning them awards and accolades. Some of the folks mentioned they thought the ribs were excellent and I too thought they were very good.

All in all, it was my first taste of his new BBQ restaurant. I certainly didn't expect it to be this good. Next time I return home for a visit, I'll be sure to stop by Jon Russell's and get a plate of everything....

You need to try "Nancy's" in Sarasota. Wonderful brisket!
