Have always been too afraid to sell and it's going to leave us with a system that likely will leave us in the AL Central basement for another 4-5 years.

They gotta make the playoffs

Nobody has right now.

Quintana hasn't pitched an inning for the Cubs, and none of those other players have played an inning above A ball.

Does someone have to "win" a trade? That phrase drives me nuts.

Both sides seem very happy. Similar reaction that both fanbases had to the Cueto/Zo trades.

You want both teams to win the trade. Especially if you give up prospects, you want those guys to be successful so teams keep trading with you.

Why do you insist on looking at it that way?

The Cubs mortgaged a part of their future for an asset that they hope will help them win in 2017, 2018, 2019.

The Sox got a haul of prospects (including a top 5 out of 100) to further bolster a strong farm system (thanks, Chris Sale and Adam Eaton!). So they have loads of potential.

But as the Cueto-Zobrist trades demonstrate, it depends on what you're looking for. I'm more than happy to pocket that World Series title and don't give a whit what any of those players we traded ever do. To me, the Royals got what they wanted and that's all that matters.

Sean Manaea might win 3 Cy Young awards for Oakland, which is more value than Zobrist would've given them, but does that mean the Royals "lost" the trade?

It's possible both the Cubs and White Sox won that trade, if each gets what they want out of it.

I'm just trying to get a gist on what we might have to give up for say a Dee Gordon or a back end starting pitcher

White Sox are loaded in the farm. Damn.
