This was a long time coming but he's not someone I would have hired for a Star Wars film...

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...eplaces-929387

Rogue One, the first Star Wars standalone movie, will be whistling a new tune.

Michael Giacchino, the composer behind such movies as the Star Trek reboot and Pixar movies ranging from The Incredibles to Inside Out, will score the upcoming movie, stepping in for Alexandre Desplat, who was originally slated to work on the movie.

The recent reshoots are behind the switch, according to sources.

Rogue One went under extensive reshoots this summer that saw writer Tony Gilroy take on a filmmaker role during the shoot and the post-production process as Disney and Lucasfilm sought to clarify story and tonal issues for the movie that opens Dec. 16.

But the reshoots also altered the scoring calendar and Desplat, who won an Oscar for The Grand Budapest Hotel, was no longer available. Disney and Lucasfilm then turned to Giacchino, who has a long relationship with the studio and its various divisions.

For Pixar, the maestro created the music for Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up (for which he won an Oscar), Cars 2 and Inside Out. For its live action film division he’s worked on Sky High, John Carter and Tomorrowland. For Disney Animation this year he scored its surprise hit Zootopia. And he’s making his Marvel Studios debut with Doctor Strange, which opens Nov. 4. (With Rogue One, he will end up working on all four of Disney's film arms.)

Giacchino is also a Star Wars fan and appeared as a storm trooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by pal J.J. Abrams and for whom he’s scored films and television shows. Giaachino will now become the first composer to work on a Star Wars movie other than the film series' iconic mainstay, John Williams, who is slated to return for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

I can name 10 guys off the top of my head that I'd rather see score R1 than MG.

Probably 20.

If droid news is what you’ve been looking for: Disney chief Bob Iger used some of his stage time at Wednesday’s Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference to update “Star Wars” fans on his upcoming slate.

“I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out — well, we reviewed — the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have ’til 2020,” Iger said. “We have movies in development for ‘Star Wars’ ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond. So, she’s not just making a ‘Star Wars’ movie, she’s making a ‘Star Wars’ universe, of sorts,” he added.

Iger told his New York audience that he has seen “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” a spinoff experiment that he called “really interesting in terms of … storytelling.”

On the regular so-called Skywalker Saga, the eighth actual “Star Wars” movie, which comes out December 2017, has been fully shot and is in the editing process, Iger said. Plus, he just got a pitch for the ninth one from its director — that 2019 release is entering preproduction as you read this.

As we know, a Han Solo/Chewbacca origin flick is coming in the next couple of years, and another “Star Wars Story” has been set for 2020. While specific details of the latter have yet to be announced, the boss has already got a writer working on it. So, go find him/her and shake ‘em down.

Other article clearly indicated that Lucasfilm has hired a writer for a yet unannounced "Star Wars Story".

I'm hoping that it's an Obi Wan film but it could be a Boba Fett film, which I personally wouldn't be very excited about.

A bounty hunter film featuring Boba Fett would be ideal, but I figure they'll do the Obi Wan film while Ewan is still alive and willing.

I've never understood the fascination with Boba Fett, outside of the costume and name.

He's a dopey, scowling kid in Episode II, an incompetent whiner during the Clone Wars Series and outside of following Han Solo (in which Vader was already in waiting) and an inept bounty hunter that was eaten by the Sarclaac.

He's a mope, especially when compared to the Mandalorian's we've seen in The Clone Wars Series and Rebels.

An Obi Wan trilogy would be awesome.

Crazy we're 2 & a half months out from its release & not a lot of leaks have been surfacing.

Rebels has really matured into a solid non Skywalker entity, and I really like the idea of a new SWU property dropping each year. Sort of like an annual holiday gift.

Assuming Disney is able to match the quality they've pulled off with MCU. I don't need or expect every release be an epic A grade release.no different than even the best shows don't end up with every episode being equally amazing "homeruns". Marvel has been impressive ensuring that really none of their releases have laid an egg even if some have been kinda meh.
