To me, I like the traditional type of point guard who is pass first, ala Aaron Miles.

To me Tharpe gives us that more than Elijah.

Tharpe at his best is a far better creator. But where has this Tharpe been all season?

That's not exactly good.

Same place Elijah has been?

Let it be known I've never said Tharpe is a better shooter than EJ.

But, I do believe he is a much better PG than Elijah Johnson. And as of right now he has more value than EJ.

I think a lot of Tharpe problems stemmed from the way he was played. Just give him the reins and say "do what you do" and if you **** up do it at full speed. He's a lot like russel Robinson in that he's not a shooter and was somewhat used as one this year.

And it's god damn amazing what happens when you play intensely under control and not try and go so fast

I didn't expect this, but wasn't all that worried, either. Minus the TCU loss, it didn't seem like losing the other 2 were all that horrible (granted, I barely watched either game). They played better against OU, and they were coming home to a rival that doesn't play well in AFH (or AFHW). It's as good of a game as any to break the losing streak... and needless to say, it had been almost a decade since they last lost 3 in a row, much less 4.

My main issue with Tharpe has been that he jacks up stupid ass shots from time to time - like Self said at the end of the half, stop putting the team in a bad position by jacking up shots and drive the damn ball.

I'm a more pleasant person to be around when KU is winning...

Yeah exactly. I mean if you get an open shot within the offense, shoot the ****er. But surprise surprise good things happen when you get the ball in the paint

Mr_Tomahawk 02-11-2013 09:16 PM

Man, should I start every game thread?

KC_Connection 02-11-2013 09:17 PM

These are the team's two "point guards" since B12 play began:

EJ: 30 FG%, 39 assists, 42 turnovers
Tharpe: 26%, 19 assists, 15 turnovers

Seeing that, there shouldn't be any wonder why Tharpe hasn't started for this team yet. The guy's been just as bad as EJ if not worse.

Sure, if Tharpe can do what he's doing tonight consistently, I'd want him to get 35 minutes every night. He actually creates offense when he's going well (which basically nobody on this team does other than McLemore occasionally). But why would anybody think that he can based on his play this season? Nobody who's being honest with themselves would.

I guess it's worth it for Self just to try something else as this team's offense had really stagnated the last few weeks (although it can't be forgotten that Tharpe played a role in that as well).

Lzen had a winning streak for awhile.

Then went MIA.

He has yet to lose a game too.

I prefer you mean, nasty and bitchy.

That is the one complaint I have about Tharpe. That was a bad shot. Or rather bad shot selection. He wasn't really open. KU is not a team that just jacks up guarded 3s.

Ceej 02-11-2013 09:18 PM

The Tharpe v. EJ is growing tired.

I would prefer Tharpe at point. But, my trust is in Self.
