So the values on the FA market seem quite a little inflated. I haven't finalized my contracts yet. Still can't decide whether to position myself to be very active in this market. Seems like it might be better to save my money for another year by getting my talent under long term contracts now.

We are leaning toward imposing a 50% tax to carry $ over to next year.

Dang Liberals!! So you are saying its better to spend it now? Does the new allotment of salary cap go into effect before the next draft and is also applied to next years crop of free agents? I ask these questions because it all affects the bidding for free agency this year. Sorry to be a pain.

We don't know if it's better to spend it now or later. It probably depends on what you need and how much money the other teams are throwing out there.

The next allotment of salary cap will apply to next year's draft and free agents. Recognize that it will be significantly smaller because you now have veterans under contract. We're still coming up with the exact number, but indications are that it will be around 500 to 600 points per year.

Some of these teams went so low on contracts that I can't believe they still have as much money left over even after their bids.

Honestly, the breadth of that strategy surprised me. I figured that we'd have some weak teams who would have lots of free agent money because they're not keeping a ton of people, but it seems like a lot of teams are going short on contracts to get more free agent money. We have enough teams going the other direction that we'll get a good feel in future seasons about which one is more effective.

Ya, a lot of stacked teams going cheap are going to lose their studs sooner then later.
