I don't agree with your premise.

I think the hardcore fans will disagree.

I'm not exactly "hardcore," but I'm far from casual.

Dane's not wrong. There's a lot of backlash at this no crawl idea all over the place. People have strong opinions about it and the most vocal among them are pro-crawl -- or more importantly, SUPER ****ING ANTI-NO CRAWL.

The "THAT'S NOT MY STAR WARS" sentiment is huge. I think it'll be interesting to see how KK and Disney play this. Do they really think, even with how vocal and set the supporters of the crawl are, that they'll lose fans by not including it?

I have no idea but I imagine they're willing to believe it's not a make or break prospect. Fans aren't going to dismiss this movie just because of that are they? If the movie is good, no one's gonna give a shit, right?

No.
No.
Yes.

The scroll isn't a must, but at some point I would think the Star Wars theme should get a little play with the opening credits. The scoll is an Episodic detail. This isn't Episode 3.5. So, it's not imparative, but it is a good means of setting up the story.

A SWU film should at least have a brief inclusion of the theme, but just my opinion.

Overall, why try to reinvent the wheel. Stick with what's working.

The problem is that yes, it is Episode 3.5.

But Lucasfilm is "boxed in", so to speak, because of the numbering system.

At some point in time, the "Episodes" will come to a conclusion, the last I heard was at XII. If that's the last time the crawl and fanfare are used, I think it would be a mistake.

That said, the standalone Han Solo story or the proposed Obi Wan trilogy, Boba Fett movie, etc., would be fine without the inclusion of the crawl or fanfare.

But any movie with Darth Vader or the Skywalkers should have it included and this film does feature Vader.

Yep, episode boxes you in. Stardate, for example, gives you latitude to jump around.

Just put the crawl in. It's Star Wars, ffs.

After further thought, I'm guessing they'll do a 'Rebels' kind of thing with the intro IF they don't do the crawl.

But ya' gotta' do the crawl.

Heh. Guess that was a little overboard. :)

Honestly though, I'm kind of looking for a departure from the current story line. I'll be thrilled if this is the least "Star Wars" movie of them all, crawler and all.

I watched the entire Star Wars Celebration Europe on YouTube this past weekend and I'm more confident in the future of Star Wars than at any point in my life.

Everyone, including the actors and directors, all absolutely LOVE Star Wars and want to honor it while moving forward as much as possible.

It was really exciting to see.

I'm with Dane on this.

Gotta have the crawl.

Star Trek is almost out. That should be able to sooth your yearning for a departure.

Low bar. Lucas proved with the last Indy that his creative vision had already shot his entire wad.

I could ask a mental patient randomly walking around with his ass hanging out of the gown and get back roughly as good an idea. [emoji6]
