Clayton Kershaw makes more than the entire San Diego Padres roster, 33 million to 28 million(they were talking about the irony of Kershaw pitching against the Padres and his salary yesterday on the radio).

Karma is real:

True dat. It's already had devastating effects on Game 1 and I'd hate to see what would happen if we didn't have one up by Game 2.

I'm on a plan period now - I'll sit down and fire up a thread. Let's do this thing.

San Diego is eating more salary than they are paying to active players. So while yes they only have 28 mil in salary on the current team, they are still on the books for like 28+ mil to players that have been cut or traded (Kemp, Shields, and a couple others)

The 2017 Season's Repository is officially up! Shout-out to lewdog for the original nomination and everyone else who got on board - I was proud to put it together.

That was a first for me too. Meeting you was the first time I met anyone from Chiefsplanet in the flesh so I had no idea what to expect. When we were 30 minutes in and talking about how Dayton Moore utilized market inefficiencies to sign players optimized for Kauffman's dimensions (i.e. flyball pitchers and contact hitters), I knew I'd found a friend a life.

First steps as GM for me this offseason (if I'm calling the shots).

1) approach Hosmer about a long-term deal. Once that doesn't happen, you can move on to guys you actually have a shot with without offending anyone.

2) Get Duffy extended (4 years, 50ish million sounds about right). Backload that sucker and clear up payroll for 2017 (should be able to save 4-5 million off his arbitration figure).

Happened, 5-65.

2) Try to extend Moustakas. Something like Chase Headley's deal is what I've seen thrown around by a few others. Seems about right - 4 years, 50ish million. If he continues to perform like 2015, it's actually a good deal for the team and more neutral for him. Adds a layer of security for Moustakas.
We should have. Too late now.

3) try to extend Herrera. A little trickier and more risky, but still a move that adds long-term stability while hopefully freeing up a few million more in payroll room.
Risky but while he's been shit this year, this could work. We will see.

4) work with Greg Holland and Luke Hochevar on incentive-based deals. Don't need both of them, but adding at least one would help the pen a lot. If holland's elbow checks out and his slider is good, I'd lean that way.
Strongly disagreed on Holland but you also nailed this one.

5) Explore a Wade Davis trade. I'd need to be blown away, but if a team like the Nationals wants to give up a Reynaldo Lopez for him, I make the deal. Also think the Cubs would be an interesting partner (with Ian Happ as my top target), but they may need those bullets for Chris Archer. If you can't trade to bolster he rotation, I'd look at a guy like Henderson Alvarez in FA.

I wanted Soler more, and still like his upside. But your boy Happ has already slammed 8 bombs in his first 118 MLB at-bats, at age 22. For a 2B, atho for some reason they're playing him in the OF which we could've done. WOW WOW WOW

Based on those 5 things, stick a toe in the DH market. It's pretty flooded, and a SH or RH-hitting option makes a lot of sense for the Royals if you can do it on a one- or two-year deal for $10 million/year or less. Really need that bat hitting 5th behind Hosmer to lengthen the lineup, in my opinion.

This could be Beltran or Morales or Holliday or Steve Pearce. Aaron Hill also intrigues me a bit, could be really cheap and offer a little 3b insurance.

Unfortunately we signed the shitty one instead of the other names. I'd have signed Moss too, sucks it doesn't look like it'll work out. All in all a pretty good post Duncan.

Dave Cameron at FG today, sizing up sellers. He has buyers, not sure, and sellers. With Royals as "not sure"

The Royals have, perhaps unfortunately for their franchise’s best interests, played themselves back into a dilemma; a fruitless run at a playoff spot that kept them from trading any of their impending free agents could make the coming rebuild even more challenging, but with recent playoff success with this group still in everyone’s memory, it’s not that hard to justify a “one last run” mentality.

2017 has been set up for years as the one last run. Gotta go for it if it's in sight imo. I'd feel a million x better if we still had Wade and Dyson :(

Hey, speaking of bitter assholes who loved Jack Zdruniak, Dave Cameron everyone!

:forwards this article to Eric Hosmer:

Not bad.

Would have been perfect if I had advocated for Logan Morrison in addition to Holliday, who was my top choice. Oh well.
