pics or it never happened. im a royals fan, IVE SEEN IT ALL, EXCEPT THAT

The most apt comparison to Butler is Mike Sweeney. Fans bitched about him as the "problem" without having any clue about how damn good he was. His OPS+ from '99-'05:
129
131
133
148
120
118
127

Yeah, Mike ****ing Sweeney and his contract were the primary problems with the Royals. "They paid the wrong guy." Wow. It couldn't be that the team paid only one guy...

Deez is hitting home runs with men on base tonight. See Shogun?

There's no such thing as clutch! /alnorth

I actually understand that arguement but I've yet to decide if I believe in it.

I'm not sure if there's clutch but I absolutely think there are people who choke on their tongue in pressure situations. I don't know how anyone could have watched Farnsworth pitch in KC and think otherwise.

Though I was being a smartass--surprise!--I believe that al and I agree on this point; there is such a thing as choking, but there isn't such a thing as "clutch." The latter suggests that a player can "turn it on," thereby holding something back in earlier situations.

Do I believe that pressure shakes some? Absolutely. Look no farther than pussies like Hochevar for proof of this, but this should come as no surprise, given how he entered the league.

Agreement with tk and Deez post

Sure-Oz 05-28-2012 06:43 AM

We're just used to losing and it seems we blame the best player. Sweeney was a stud...and the face of losing. Beltran wouldve been that guy as well, wouldn't have mattered.

As I said to lew, not just the Royals best hitter, one of the best in the game. Imagine him on a team like Texas where he has runners on base all the time when he hits.

MOAR DUBBLE PLAYES!!!!!!

Sweeney took all the bullets that the Glassholes should have taken.

A sweep of the Indians would put us right back in the division chase. I was surprised when I looked at the standing today and saw that the Sox were 9-1 in their last ten and on a five game tear.

The CWS just embarrassed them.
