Nobody calls a presser to say they're asking to be let out of their LOI. It's a big save; Roberts is a damn nice fit. |

Roberts is already tweeting at Harris and Mizzou fans trying to do a little recruiting on his own.
What is happening here? Could Mizzou basketball be a fun thing again in the near future? |

Knox is a legitimate possibility, which is crazy.

Just got this excerpt from a news story sent to me. Sounds good.

With Porter and Roberts in the fold, if they got Knox they're going to be ridiculous. I'd honestly be shocked if they make the tourney next year. The only issue is how long will it take for the team to gel.

Any word on the staff besides Porter Sr.? I haven't really heard.

@MizzouSports: 2017 5* center, Jeremiah Tilmon, just Retweeted his Illinois commitment post from July. You can probably scratch him off your wish list. https://twitter.com/MizzouSports/sta...983749/photo/1

Wow. Sounds like dad is impressed with Martin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
This is by all accounts an awesome start for the turnaround of Mizzou basketball so far, but does it concern anyone else that most of this top tier talent is coming here because we hired someones dad?
|
Quote:
If Michael Porter Sr. is the hire that makes us even remotely relevant again and gets 4-star+ kids to use visits to come see us (and seriously, we have some elite facilities), it won't bother me one bit. They have to get something to get back off the mat and if this is that thing, so be it. None of this happens with out MPJ and with him in the fold, we could've easily accelerated the rebuild by 3-4 years. That's nothing but a good thing. It's not a finish line - Cuonzo has to capitalize on that momentum. But it's a hell of a good start. |
Quote:
Not to mention if MPS gets all of his sons to go to Mizzou, shit that's 4 years of 4 star recruits in the bag. |
The only caveat being "unless said recruits father is La'var Ball, who is a monumental prick."
Because as big a fan of Lonzo as I am (kid sees the floor like Nash), his dad simply ensures that he's not worth the effort for a college program. You're just tools in his scheme and you're not going to get the return that you think you will. |

If we can pull Knox as well that would ease my worries quite a bit. Porter Jr is straight up nepotism, but Knox would mean there was something else, whether it be Martin himself, the facilities, whatever else.

It's not the easiest, most direct path, but those kids with just enough rough edges to their games to need 3-4 years in college are going to be better than any 1 and done by their SR years. That's why NC just won the title - they brought back most of last year's squad and it showed in all those pressure situations in the tourney. Roberts re-upping is a great sign. That's a guy that had very few ties to this team and had every reason to re-open yet didn't. He and his family loved what they saw here and stayed. If Cuonzo can get a handful of good 4-star recruits every year, he can have this program as a perennial Sweet 16 threat and at that point you're just a few lucky bounces from getting where you want to be (which is all you can ask in college basketball, with its midget 3 point line and whistle-happy officials). |

Later, he goes on television and tells one of the national guys (maybe Steven A Smith?) that the HS coach is bi-polar and an addict and he's going to have him fired. Like I said, the guy is just a complete one who sucks the penis. |

It's just impossible to overstate how important seeding is. Getting a team through clean to the Sweet 16, especially a young one that needs to see some live fire, is enormous. If that team comes out and goes .500 through non-con play, they're setting themselves up to have to scramble to get into the tournament at all. If they enter the conference slate at 6-6, they'd likely need to go 16-6 over the last 22 to get in and even that may not be enough. That's the thing with these rebuilds when they get down to the studs; if you completely gut a team, you need them to get together in a HURRY or your margin for error has pretty well vanished. 16-6 is tough sledding even for a solid, veteran team. When you're looking at an extremely talented but extremely young team in a conference that has Kentucky and Florida, not to mention a hell of a lot of genuinely good coaches on lesser programs that could jump up and bite you at any time. But man, get out at 10-2 and you're off to the races with a shot at a genuinely good seed. |
Damn - the reasonably cheap seats are gone, leaving pretty much nosebleeds or the $850/st or better season tickets.
****ed off and didn't make up my mind for too long. Idiot. |
