I use ABP. I saw it and disabled it for CP.

Frosty 09-11-2014 06:25 PM

Well, whitelisting CP in ABP has one annoying side effect - when you open a thread to the first unread, it pops down to the ad first and then jumps back up to the post once the ad loads. Small price to pay to help Kyle, but still annoying.

Anyone who donates more than a couple bucks(the minimum to cover paypal overhead) gets put in the supporters group. There is a "subscription" area in the user control panel and there is the green donate link above. The donate link doesn't automatically put you in the usergroup so if anyone uses that and I forget to move them over, just bug me and I can fix it.

To whom is your personal information visible, if you were to make a PayPal donation?

So when I got home I found out when I cloned my drive to my SSD it disabled my adblock, so that's why I didn't see the white text, and the ads where so unobtrusive I didn't even notice~

That isn't me! There is a company that keeps bugging me about that "feature" and I keep telling them no.... to me, it's annoying as hell.

So, if that is happening to you, it is most likely something on your computer causing it.... I'd scan for malware ASAP.

Is it just me or do the ads make this website choppy as ****?

I turned my adblock back on and refreshed the page and its smooth as butter, turned it back off and refreshed and its choppy.

And I've got a top of the line custom build PC.

EDIT: Just loaded the page in Chrome and its not choppy with the ads, maybe its a Firefox deal. Anyone else notice it being choppy with FF?

Yes, FFwith ABP disabled loading CP takes longer and is choppy for me but I am using a dinosaur so I always blame it on the machine.

Well crap. Do the ads at the very bottom of the page show up? In theory, if the ads show, the notice should not.

No ads, but I'm not blocking them.

I was wondering why I was ending up in the wrong thread so much. Stopped surfing so fast for a sec and saw the line shift/notice.

That is strange, what happens if you turn ADP back on, surf the site a bit then turn it off again? See if the bottom ads show then.

Turning off AdBlocker has had the side effect of killing the audio in select YouTube videos. I t's related to whether or not the video is playing through FLASH or HTML5.

R8RFAN 09-26-2014 06:55 PM

I have a better idea, just block the website to those who run ad blocker unless they pay to opt out of them.

ragedogg69 09-30-2014 05:55 PM

So here is something new. Site is whitelisted. I see ads at the bottom, no notification at the top. However, I get duplicates in my history of the same page I am looking at. If I click the back button, nothing happens. I think it has something to do with Autopager. Right now, if I look at the pages on my back button, it lists this same page twice.

If I remove the whitelist, it goes back to normal.

Run Malwarebytes (and quit downloading goat pron!). Some malware triggers off from ad code to run popups. There is no code on the chiefsplanet server that does any popping up of anything.

For Chrome users, i recommend using the free extension Ghostery.

It's similar in functionality to no script but works for cookies.

allows you to pick and choose which cookies to accept for which site with settings for each(temporary, permanent)

easy to use

If anyone gets a popup or popunder it is NOT our ad code. Our ad code is plain ol Google Adsense. So, if any crazy stuff happens, you need to immediately run Malwarebytes and find the malware causing it.

Malwarebytes won't clear virii, it is there for simple malware. You need a real antivirus like avast.(free)

What happens is this.. you get malware from the web (unless you run malwarebytes and keep on top of things), that malware will create popups and what not that sometimes key off from ads or other things (making it appear to you that it comes from a website you are on when in fact it is caused by the malware) some of those popups have downloads that contain virii.

rocknrolla 11-04-2014 07:40 PM

Ran Hitman and took care of it, thanks.

It's not just adblockers that your change impacted. It's noscript, as well. The only way I can get rid of that delayed alteration to the page is to allow for googlesyndication as an exception to noscript.

I have that issue in that thread as well - no other threads. I've got chiefsplanet.com whitelisted in AdBlock, but for some reason whenever I go into that Ferguson Decision thread, it pops up at the top and says:

"You have an ad blocker enabled! Please whitelist us and support ChiefsPlanet

Even looking at the top on that page it shows that AdBlock isn't enabled. Not sure what happened after post #1892. I did report it a couple days ago.

Mr. Plow 12-08-2014 01:25 PM

FYI - that thread seems to work fine in IE, but not in Chrome or FF.

Mr. Plow 12-08-2014 01:27 PM

Actually, I take that back. I can get to the last page (posts #1906 to 1912), but the moment I go back to the page before, it stops at post #1892 again.

I'm not sure of all the proper lingo but I'm on my iPhone, and many times after I submit "view first unread" after opening a thread, the window changes to the proper page, but while it's loading suddenly the whole page goes to an advertisement. I hit back and the page I want to see is there.

It just did it on the "NFL can't pass up on Dallas vs green bay" thread. Went to a good housekeeping page, or ad. I assume this has something to do with the cowgirls......

Of course so does all site revenue to pay for the server. :( (since this started we are down 50%)

I'm blocking the ads as I find them, unfortunately the issue is on Google's end and they haven't done crap to fix it yet.

Another day or two and I should have them weeded out. And hopefully Google will get off its ass and fix the hole in their code.

I don't know what's going on but it has gotten worse in the last few days. I turned ADP off and now I get an attempted redirect on every refresh or anytime I change from one page top another. FireFox is disallowing the majority of it. I checked the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" in Options/Advanced/General. For the most part I get a bar on the top of the page that tells me a redirect was prevented. I did have 2 or 3 redirects succeed within the last half hour or forty five minutes.

listopencil 01-07-2015 09:02 PM

But at least the ads are still showing down at the bottom of the page. They really are not obtrusive enough to warrant ABP.

It's strange because I have never seen one but then again adsense keys off each user individually. So Google has decided to serve you the ads that are causing the issues while it has decided to show me ads for trips to Vegas (what i am seeing right now).

Do you have another browser you don't use normally? If so, you can empty out all cookies on that browser and see if the frequency stays the same. It shouldn't unless the ads are targeting certain IP based on geography. (which would be very odd indeed)

I turned it back off. The "disable ad blocker" message is about the same size and the same delay as the "FireFox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" message.
