Targeting the finish line of a marathon seems rahter weak for them. Then again it might just be what they have been reduced too.

Seems like somewhere between 2:45 and 3:00 East Coast time.

News reports are saying 2:45, but that seems a bit early based on my personal timeline of events (my co-workers girlfriend called about 3-5 minutes before I posted at a few minutes after 3:00, and she was actually near the scene of the blasts).

Because targets are traditionally symbolic. Consumerism, finance, defense, etc.

I'm very skeptical it's something other than a young American male(s).

Demonpenz 04-15-2013 01:40 PM

Easier perhaps but you have to remember that the death toll isn't just what international terrorists are after but the method and shock of how it happened as well.

On the surface this seems more like a McVey type than a Bin Laden type of bombing but then again, WTF knows?

FWIW we've had such issues in Copley before. For some reason if there's an electrical fire in Boston that knocks out a major grid and causes a fire, it happens in Copley.

The timing is hella coincidental though for an accident.

CaliforniaChief 04-15-2013 01:45 PM

A few years ago I lived in a place the marathon route went right past, and the area where this stuff happened is one of the parts of the city I find myself in most. Seriously cannot process this and I can only hope no one I know has been affected.

I work in import/export did you know that bales of raw cotton is spontaneously combustible?

You can drop a bale of cotton on the street and it could explode.

Yes. Patriots Day is a state holiday. It commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord. There are re-enactments (at ungodly hours of the morning) in both of those towns, the Boston Marathon is run every year on Patriots' Day, and the Red Sox play at home starting at 11:00 every year on that day also. It's rather a big deal for us.
